About this course
Khan Academy's short course on the first ideas of algebra: why we use letters, how to write and evaluate expressions, and how to simplify them. Who it's for: middle-school students and anyone who wants to restart algebra from the beginning. These are the free, official videos of the "Algebra Foundations" playlist from the Khan Academy YouTube channel (youtube.com/@khanacademy). All videos belong to Khan Academy; Sikhami is not affiliated with Khan Academy and simply arranges the public playlist into a course, so you can learn one lesson at a time and keep track of your progress.
What you will learn
• The origins and beauty of algebra, and why we use letters • Writing expressions with variables and parentheses • Evaluating expressions, including with exponents and substitution • Dependent and independent variables • Simplifying expressions by combining like terms and the distributive property • Interpreting linear expressions, and why dividing by zero is undefined
