Teachable Pricing and Plans, and a Free Alternative for Teachers in India

Updated 18 October 2026 · Facts checked against the sources listed at the end

Teachable is a platform for selling online courses, coaching and digital downloads from your own school site. Its plans are priced in US dollars. They start at $39 a month billed monthly, or $29 a month billed annually, and there is no free plan. Sikhami differs mainly in cost: it is free to set up and earns only when a learner buys something paid online.

This page is for teachers and course creators in India who are comparing Teachable with other options. It sets out Teachable's plans and fees as published, how payments work for a teacher based in India, and a side-by-side table with Sikhami. It also says plainly when Teachable is the better choice.

Teachable at a glance

Sikhami wrote this comparison, and we make Sikhami, so please read it with that in mind. We checked every detail about Teachable on its own website on 18 October 2026. Prices and features change, so check them again before you decide. Teachable is a trademark of its owner; Sikhami is not connected with it.

On Teachable you build a school. It can hold courses, coaching and digital downloads, plus memberships, bundles and a community. Students learn on the web or in Teachable's free student app for iOS and Android. The plans differ mainly in the transaction fee, the number of published products and a few extra features.

Each plan comes with a 7-day free trial and a 30-day money-back guarantee. Teachable says annual billing saves 22% compared with paying month to month. A product is a published course, coaching offer or digital download. Memberships, bundles and unpublished drafts do not count towards the limit.

The transaction fee is Teachable's own charge on each sale. Payment processing fees are separate. Since June 2025, every plan includes drip content, lesson comments, short answer assessments and multiple-choice quizzes with automatic grading. Course certificates, removing Teachable branding and five admin users are listed with the Growth plan.

Selling on Teachable from India

Teachable has two ways to take payments. Teachable Payments is its own gateway, built on Stripe. Its help centre lists the 41 countries where it is available. India was not among them on 18 October 2026.

Creators in other countries are routed to the Custom Payment Gateway. Here you connect your own Stripe Standard account, and payouts go to that account. Students can pay by card or Stripe Link. They can also pay by PayPal if you connect a PayPal business account, for one-time purchases in US dollars.

On this gateway, Teachable does not calculate or collect tax for you, and affiliate payouts are handled by hand. Stripe charges its own processing fees. Teachable's plan fee, 7.5% on Starter and 0% on the higher plans, applies on both gateways.

So use the free trial well. Connect your Stripe account and run a small test sale before you pay for a plan. That tells you quickly whether the set-up works for you and your buyers.

Teachable and Sikhami side by side

The table lists only what both platforms confirm on their own pages. On Sikhami, a teacher sells a video course through an institute. Creating one is free, even if you teach alone.

Teachable and Sikhami compared (18 October 2026)

When Teachable is the better choice

  • You want your own school site on your own domain, with your logo and, on Growth, without Teachable branding.
  • Many of your students use iPhones. Teachable's free student app runs on iOS and Android, with offline viewing.
  • You want the student app to guard your videos. Teachable's app page lists screenshot prevention and a one-time-password login.
  • You sell coaching or digital downloads next to your courses, with upsells, order bumps and, from Builder, an affiliate program.
  • You want short answer assessments as well as multiple-choice quizzes.
  • Your buyers are spread across many countries, and your business is based in one of the 41 countries where Teachable Payments works.

When Sikhami is the better choice

  • You want to publish a course before you pay anything. There is no monthly plan, so a month without sales costs you nothing.
  • Your buyers are in India. On the website they pay by UPI, card or net banking. Before you save a price, Sikhami shows what you will receive per sale on the website and in the app.
  • You want learners to find you, not only buy from you. Sikhami is a social network for learners. Your institute and each course get a public page, and learners browse them by category.
  • You already teach on YouTube. A playlist can become a free course with tests and a certificate. See how to turn a YouTube playlist into a course.
  • You also teach in a classroom. Batches, attendance and a fee book with receipts are part of the free LMS, and Sikhami takes nothing from classroom fees.
  • You want more ways to earn from your own account, such as paid PDF notes and paid clubs.

How to try Sikhami alongside Teachable

Illustration: a video course curriculum, with tests and a certificate of completion at the end.
  1. Sign up on Sikhami, open Learning studio and choose New institute. Your own name works as the institute name if you teach alone.
  2. In Details, add your logo, a username, an about section, your email and phone (each confirmed with a code), your full address and your location on the map. Add your bank and tax details for payouts.
  3. Under Courses, choose New course, then Video course. Pick Upload videos for a paid course, or YouTube playlist for a free one. Video courses are made on the website.
  4. Build the curriculum in sections, add tests, and keep or switch off the certificate.
  5. In Set prices, choose 6 months, 1 year, 2 years or lifetime access, or leave the course free. Under each price you see what you will receive per sale.
  6. Publish, then share the course link on WhatsApp and with your followers. Keep your Teachable school as it is while you compare.

A course goes live only under a published institute, so finish step 2 first.

Want institutes to invite you to teach their courses as well? Create and publish a free teacher profile too. An institute can then invite you to a course and, if it chooses, give you a share of that course's online sales.

What to check before you pick any course platform

Whatever you choose, these questions save money and surprises later.

  • What do you pay in a month with no sales? What does each sale cost after platform, payment and app store fees?
  • Which payment gateway is open to a teacher based in India? Can your buyers pay by UPI?
  • Who works out tax and issues invoices, and can your GSTIN appear on them?
  • Which plan includes the features you need, such as certificates, your own domain or more admins?
  • How many products and students does the plan allow before you must upgrade?
  • Do students get an Android app? Can they download lessons?
  • Can you export your student list and keep your video files if you leave?

Then test with one short course. A real sale teaches you more than any feature list. Our guide on how to sell online courses covers the steps before and after the sale.

Good to know before you start

  • A teacher sells a video course through an institute. A teacher profile on its own cannot sell a course.
  • Video courses are created on the website. Learners watch them on the website and in the Android app.
  • Sikhami gives you no app, web address or website builder of your own. Your institute page is a free page, like a simple website.
  • There is no DRM, download protection or screen-recording protection on course videos.
  • Tests are multiple choice with one correct answer. A course has no PDF lectures, so sell PDFs as paid notes instead.
  • Courses made from a YouTube playlist are always free.
  • Live classes for batches run on Google Meet or Zoom, and the batch keeps the link.
