Delhi Police Constable Salary 2026: In-Hand Pay, Pay Level and Head Constable Salary
Updated 10 October 2026 · Facts checked against the sources listed at the end
A Delhi Police Constable (Executive) is paid at Pay Level 3 of the 7th Pay Commission matrix, with basic pay from Rs 21,700 to Rs 69,100. That is what SSC printed in its latest notice for the post, the Constable (Executive) Male and Female in Delhi Police Examination, 2025. Head Constables, both Ministerial and AWO/TPO, are one step up at Level 4, with basic pay from Rs 25,500 to Rs 81,100.
Using official rates for Delhi (DA at 60% of basic since 1 January 2026, HRA at 30% for an X class city, and Transport Allowance of Rs 3,600 plus DA), our approximate gross at the starting basic is Rs 46,990 a month for a constable and Rs 54,210 for a head constable. After the 10% NPS contribution, approximate take-home before income tax is Rs 43,518 and Rs 50,130. Delhi Police also lists ration money and a yearly dress allowance, covered further down.
Delhi Police constable salary: pay level and basic pay
SSC conducts the Delhi Police constable and head constable exams under an agreement with Delhi Police, and each exam notice states the post's pay. The latest notices are all for the 2025 exams. When we checked the SSC notice board on 10 October 2026, no notice for a newer Delhi Police constable or head constable cycle had been published.
| Post | Latest SSC notice | Pay level | Basic pay range | Group |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Constable (Executive), men and women | Delhi Police Examination, 2025 (uploaded 22 September 2025) | Level 3 | Rs 21,700 to Rs 69,100 | Group C |
| Head Constable (Ministerial) | Delhi Police Examination, 2025 (applications from 29 September 2025) | Level 4 | Rs 25,500 to Rs 81,100 | Group C |
| Head Constable (AWO/TPO) | Delhi Police Examination, 2025 (uploaded 24 September 2025) | Level 4 | Rs 25,500 to Rs 81,100 | Group C |
AWO means Assistant Wireless Operator and TPO means Tele-Printer Operator. Delhi Police's own RTI disclosure on pay, Manual 10 (updated 13 May 2025), shows the same levels: Constable at Level 3, and Head Constable and Head Constable (Driver) at Level 4.
Pay level by rank in Delhi Police
| Rank | Pay level | Basic pay range |
|---|---|---|
| Constable | Level 3 | Rs 21,700 to Rs 69,100 |
| Head Constable | Level 4 | Rs 25,500 to Rs 81,100 |
| Assistant Sub-Inspector | Level 5 | Rs 29,200 to Rs 92,300 |
| Sub-Inspector | Level 6 | Rs 35,400 to Rs 1,12,400 |
| Inspector | Level 7 | Rs 44,900 to Rs 1,42,400 |
The manual gives pay by rank but not how quickly people are promoted. That depends on Delhi Police's own rules and on vacancies, so treat this table as the ladder, not a timetable.
Delhi Police constable salary per month: approximate in-hand
Basic pay is only one part of the monthly salary. Delhi Police's manual says HRA, DA and Transport Allowance are paid at par with other central government employees, so the central rates apply:
- Dearness Allowance (DA): 60% of basic pay from 1 January 2026, after the Union Cabinet raised it from 58% in April 2026. The revision due from 1 July 2026 had not been announced when we checked on 10 October 2026.
- House Rent Allowance (HRA): 30% of basic in X class cities, which include Delhi, now that DA is above 50%. The Delhi Police manual lists HRA at 30% for those eligible where it is sanctioned.
- Transport Allowance (TA): Rs 3,600 a month plus DA on it, for Pay Levels 3 to 8 in the listed bigger cities, Delhi included.
- National Pension System (NPS): you contribute 10% of basic plus DA every month, and the government adds 14%.
| Component | Constable (Level 3) | Head Constable (Level 4) |
|---|---|---|
| Basic pay | Rs 21,700 | Rs 25,500 |
| DA at 60% | Rs 13,020 | Rs 15,300 |
| HRA at 30% | Rs 6,510 | Rs 7,650 |
| Transport Allowance (Rs 3,600 plus 60% DA) | Rs 5,760 | Rs 5,760 |
| Approximate gross | Rs 46,990 | Rs 54,210 |
| Less NPS (10% of basic plus DA) | Rs 3,472 | Rs 4,080 |
| Approximate take-home before income tax and other small deductions | Rs 43,518 | Rs 50,130 |
This is our own approximate calculation from official rates, not a figure published by SSC or Delhi Police. It leaves out ration money, dress allowance, other Delhi Police allowances and income tax. If HRA is not sanctioned for you, take Rs 6,510 (constable) or Rs 7,650 (head constable) off the gross. All the DA-linked lines will rise once the July 2026 DA is announced.
What moves these numbers
- DA changes: DA, the DA part of Transport Allowance and the NPS deduction all move with it. The last change took DA from 58% to 60% from 1 January 2026.
- Annual increments: each year you move one cell down the pay matrix, shown further down this page, and every basic-linked line rises with it.
- HRA: it is paid only where it is sanctioned for you, so it is the one line that can drop out completely.
- Income tax: it depends on your total yearly income and the tax regime you choose, so we have not deducted it.
The government also puts 14% of basic plus DA into your NPS account, about Rs 4,861 a month for a new constable and Rs 5,712 for a new head constable on the figures above. That money is yours for retirement, but it never shows up in take-home pay.
Allowances Delhi Police lists for constables and head constables
Delhi Police publishes its allowance rates in Manual 10 of its RTI disclosures. The latest version we could find, updated on 13 May 2025, lists these for the lower ranks:
| Allowance | Ranks covered | Rate shown in the manual |
|---|---|---|
| Ration money | Constable to Inspector | Rs 150.04 per day, with effect from 1 April 2024 |
| Dress allowance | Constable to Inspector | Rs 12,500 a year |
| Compensatory pay | Constable to Inspector | Paid annually; amount not stated |
| Cycle conveyance allowance (if sanctioned) | MTS to Head Constable | Rs 180 a month |
| DA, HRA and Transport Allowance | All staff | At par with other central government employees |
At the listed rate, ration money works out to about Rs 4,501 in a 30-day month. These rates get revised: the same manual still shows DA at 55% from January 2025, which has since become 60%. Treat the manual as a guide and confirm current rates with Delhi Police after you join.
You will see other allowances for Delhi Police constables quoted on various websites. We have left out anything we could not find in an official Delhi Police or central government source.
How the salary grows: the 7th CPC pay matrix
Each pay level is a column of cells in the 7th Pay Commission pay matrix. You join at the first cell, and each annual increment moves you one cell down. These are the first eight cells for both levels.
| Cell | Level 3 (Constable) | Level 4 (Head Constable) |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Rs 21,700 | Rs 25,500 |
| 2 | Rs 22,400 | Rs 26,300 |
| 3 | Rs 23,100 | Rs 27,100 |
| 4 | Rs 23,800 | Rs 27,900 |
| 5 | Rs 24,500 | Rs 28,700 |
| 6 | Rs 25,200 | Rs 29,600 |
| 7 | Rs 26,000 | Rs 30,500 |
| 8 | Rs 26,800 | Rs 31,400 |
So three increments after joining, a constable's basic would be Rs 23,800 and a head constable's Rs 27,900, with DA, HRA and the NPS deduction rising along with it. A promotion moves you into the next rank's pay level.
The 8th Central Pay Commission received its terms of reference in October 2025 and has 18 months from its constitution to report. Until the government notifies new pay rules, the 7th Pay Commission figures on this page are the ones that apply.
Delhi Police head constable salary
Both head constable posts recruited through SSC are at Level 4, so their pay is identical; the work and the entry rules differ. At the first stage in Delhi, our approximate head constable gross of Rs 54,210 is Rs 7,220 a month more than a new constable's Rs 46,990, mostly because DA and HRA are worked out on the higher basic.

Where the 2025 recruitment stands
SSC held the 2025 constable CBE from 18 December 2025 to 6 January 2026 and declared the result on 19 June 2026. The notice had listed 7,565 tentative vacancies (5,069 for men including ex-servicemen, 2,496 for women); the category-wise vacancy rows in the result add up to 7,201. Delhi Police began the PE&MT and document verification on 19 August 2026, and the final result is still awaited. For head constables, SSC declared the CBE results on 29 May 2026 (AWO/TPO) and 5 June 2026 (Ministerial).
The next notice will appear on ssc.gov.in. Until then, build the base: half the constable CBE is general knowledge and current affairs, so a little GK every day adds up.
