Updated 10 October 2026 · Facts checked against the sources listed at the end

CGL 2026 Tier 1 is being held from 30 September to 30 October 2026. SSC releases each candidate's admit card, which it officially calls the Admission Certificate, two to three days before that candidate's own exam date, and you download it by logging in on ssc.gov.in.

This guide covers the difference between the city intimation slip and the admit card, the download steps on the current website, the ID and document rules from the official notice, and what to do when something goes wrong.

SSC dates do move. CGL 2025 Tier 1 was first scheduled for 13 to 30 August 2025 and was actually held from 12 to 26 September 2025. Check the Notice Board on ssc.gov.in and your login a day before your exam.

Admit card vs city intimation slip vs application status

Students mix these three up every year, so here is the plain difference.

  • City intimation slip (exam city details): tells you the city and date of your exam so you can plan travel and stay. The CGL 2026 notice says city and timetable information goes up about 10 days before the exam. You cannot enter the exam hall with it.
  • Admit card (Admission Certificate): the document you must print and carry. It shows your exam venue and timing, and it opens for download only 2 to 3 days before your date.
  • Application status: on the current website this is checked inside your login. If your fee did not reach SSC, your application printout shows the status as Incomplete, and such applications are rejected; the Payment Status link in your login shows whether the fee was received. If you cannot see your exam details one week before your exam, the notice says you must contact the SSC Regional Office for your centre immediately, with proof that you applied.

In short, the city slip helps you book tickets; only the printed admit card gets you into the exam.

How to download the SSC CGL admit card on ssc.gov.in

  1. Open https://ssc.gov.in and click Login or Register.
  2. Log in with your Registration Number (from One-Time Registration) and password. A registration made on the old ssc.nic.in website does not work on the new site.
  3. Find your Combined Graduate Level Examination, 2026 details in your account. Your exam city appears first, and the Admission Certificate becomes available 2 to 3 days before your exam date.
  4. If you chose your own scribe, enter your scribe's OTR number. An OTP goes to the scribe's registered mobile; enter it, accept the declarations, and download your admit card together with the scribe's entry pass.
  5. Download the PDF and print it clearly. Check your name, photograph, date of birth, exam date, shift and venue before you leave home.

Forgot your registration number or password?

SSC retrieves a forgotten password or registration number through the mobile number and email you verified during One-Time Registration, so keep both active. If you no longer have access to either, contact your Regional Office well before your exam date, not on the morning of the exam.

Documents to carry on exam day

The rules depend on whether you completed Aadhaar-based authentication when you registered.

Your caseWhat to carry
Completed Aadhaar-based authenticationPrinted admit card. The notice exempts you from showing photographs and photo ID, but carrying an original ID as a backup does no harm.
Did not complete Aadhaar-based authenticationPrinted admit card, two recent passport-size colour photographs and one original photo ID showing the same date of birth as the admit card. Report two hours before the exam.
Using a scribeAlso the medical certificate, undertaking and a photocopy of the scribe's photo ID, as the notice requires.
What to carry for SSC CGL 2026, as per the exam notice

Photo IDs SSC accepts

  • Aadhaar card or printout of e-Aadhaar
  • Voter ID card
  • Driving licence
  • PAN card
  • Passport
  • ID card issued by your university, college or school
  • Employer ID card (government or PSU)
  • Ex-serviceman discharge book issued by the Ministry of Defence
  • Any other photo ID issued by the Central or State Government

If your ID does not show your date of birth, bring an original document that does, such as your matriculation certificate, a CBSE, ICSE or state board marksheet, birth certificate, category certificate or passport. If the date of birth on your ID and on your admit card do not match, you will not be allowed to take the exam.

Also bring anything else your admit card asks for, and look like your application photograph. The notice tells candidates to appear as they do in the photo captured with the form, and centre staff can stop anyone who looks doubtful.

What not to take inside

The CGL 2026 notice lists how long a candidate is barred from SSC exams for each kind of malpractice. Some of them catch people who were only careless.

What happensDebarment from SSC exams
Mobile phone found on you, switched on or off3 years
Bluetooth device, spy camera or any other electronic gadget in the hall7 years
Taking rough sheets or the Commission's copy of the admit card out of the hall2 years
Leaving the venue during the exam without informing staff2 years
Appearing with a forged admit card or ID5 years
Selected debarment periods from the CGL 2026 notice

The simple rule: leave the phone, smartwatch and earbuds at home or with someone waiting outside.

Common SSC CGL admit card problems and fixes

  • Exam city not showing a week before your exam: contact the Regional Office for your exam centre at once, with proof that you applied. In any letter or email, write your registration number, roll number, registered email and mobile number, name, date of birth and exam name; SSC says it will not act on messages that leave these out.
  • Admit card not visible yet: it opens only 2 to 3 days before your own date. A friend with an earlier shift may get theirs first, which is normal.
  • Date of birth mismatch between your ID and admit card: you will be turned away, so sort out the extra date-of-birth proof before exam day.
  • Exam rescheduled: this has happened before. In CGL 2025, SSC moved some candidates to a re-exam on 14 October 2025 with revised admit cards, and anyone who did not appear was treated as absent with no further chance.
  • Far-away exam city: for CGL 2025 Tier 1, SSC said 93 per cent of candidates got a centre from their first, second or third choice; the rest were placed in nearby places. Book travel as soon as your city shows.
  • Own scribe not mapped: the scribe's entry pass is generated only if you mapped the scribe's OTR by 24 September 2026 (11 pm). Scribe registrations made before 5 November 2025 were disposed of, so your scribe must register afresh with Aadhaar authentication.

What the Tier 1 paper looks like on the day

CGL 2026 Tier 1 has 100 multiple-choice questions for 200 marks in one hour, split into four sections of 25 questions: General Intelligence and Reasoning, General Awareness, Quantitative Aptitude and English Comprehension. New this year, each section has its own 15-minute timer (20 minutes for candidates eligible for a scribe). Each wrong answer costs 0.50 marks, and every section except English is set in both English and Hindi.

In the last two days, light revision works better than new topics. Run through free notes on Sikhami or a couple of short quiz battles to keep your speed up, then sleep early and reach the centre in good time.

SSC CGL Tier 2 admit card

Only candidates who clear Tier 1 get a Tier 2 admit card. For CGL 2025, Tier 2 was held on 18 and 19 January 2026; SSC put city details in the login and released the admit card 2 to 3 days before the exam, the same way as Tier 1.

For CGL 2026, the notice lists Tier 2 as tentatively December 2026. SSC has not issued a Tier 2 date notice yet, and the Tier 1 result has to come first. If you are already preparing for Tier 2, a Sikhami study room is a simple way to keep a daily study routine with other aspirants.

Frequently asked questions

When will the SSC CGL 2026 admit card be released?

CGL 2026 Tier 1 runs from 30 September to 30 October 2026, and SSC releases each admit card 2 to 3 days before that candidate's exam date. You download it by logging in on ssc.gov.in.

Is the SSC CGL city intimation slip the same as the admit card?

No. The city details tell you your exam city and date so you can plan travel. You cannot enter the exam with them; you need the printed Admission Certificate.

How do I get my SSC CGL intimation slip?

Log in on ssc.gov.in with your registration number and password and open your CGL 2026 application. SSC announced on 21 September 2026 that Tier 1 candidates can view their exam city there.

Which ID proof is valid for the SSC CGL exam?

An original Aadhaar card or e-Aadhaar printout, voter ID, driving licence, PAN card, passport, college or university ID, government or PSU employer ID, ex-serviceman discharge book, or another government photo ID. It must show the same date of birth as your admit card, or you must carry an extra original proof of date of birth. Candidates who completed Aadhaar-based authentication are exempted from this requirement under the notice.

Can I take my phone to the SSC CGL exam centre?

Do not take it inside. Under the CGL 2026 notice, possession of a mobile phone, even switched off, can lead to a three-year debarment from SSC exams, and electronic gadgets such as Bluetooth devices carry seven years.
