Create a meetup

Host a one-off session online or in person: set the date and time, the place or a meeting link, the seats and an optional joining fee, then publish it. Also how to change, unpublish or delete a meetup.

Updated 22 October 2026

A meetup is a one-off gathering on a set date, online or in person, free or paid. It can be a doubt-clearing session, a workshop, a mock test or a talk. People join it from its page, and everyone who joins can use the meetup's chat.

You make a meetup in two steps: first a name, then the details on the meetup's manage page. This article is for hosts. To find and join meetups, see Meetups.

Where to find it

  • Open Create and choose Meetup.
  • Open More, then Creator studio, and select the Meetup tile. On a phone, open your profile and select ⋯ to reach the same menu.
  • Go straight to New meetup.

Your meetups are listed in the Creator studio under My meetups. Each one shows whether it is Published or a Draft, whether it is In person or Online, and how many people are going. Select one to open its manage page. On your meetup's own page you also see a Manage button at the top.

Create the meetup

  1. Open Create and choose Meetup. The New meetup page opens.
  2. Type a Meetup name of at least 3 characters (up to 80).
  3. Optional: under What is it about?, pick up to 10 topics.
  4. Select Create meetup.

The meetup starts as a draft. It is set to in person with 10 seats, and you are counted as the first person going. The Manage meetup page opens. Select View page at the top at any time to see the meetup as others see it.

Online or in person

Under Format, choose In person or Online. The choice changes what you can set:

In personOnline
Duration30 mins, 1 hr, 2 hr, 3 hr or 5 hr30 mins or 1 hr
SeatsYou choose: a whole number from 1 to 100000Always 4
WhereA venue: the kind of place, the address and an optional map pointAn optional meeting link

Online meetups are built around Sikhami's video session, which seats four people for at most an hour. When you switch a meetup to online, its seats change to 4, and a duration longer than 1 hr changes to 1 hr.

The video session is started by the host in the Sikhami Android app. The website cannot start it. On the website you can add a meeting link instead, for example a Google Meet link. People who joined then see an Open meeting link button on the meetup page.

Fill in the details

Each field on the manage page has its own Save button, which appears when you change something.

  • Cover picture: a wide picture for the top of the meetup page. Select Choose to upload a JPG or PNG up to 10 MB. Until you upload one, the meetup uses a picture of the first letter of its name.
  • Basics: Meetup name, About (up to 1000 characters: what happens, who it is for and what to bring) and Category (type it in lower-case, or pick one from the list).
  • Discovery (optional): Language, Level, topics, and Format (for example Workshop, Study session, Mock test or Seminar). These help people find the meetup in search.
  • Schedule: pick a Date and a Time, then select Save. You cannot pick a time in the past.
  • Venue (in person only): choose the Kind of place (Cafe, Work, Home or Open space), fill in Address line 1 and Address line 2, and if you like Address line 3 (optional). To put the meetup on a map, enter the Latitude and Longitude, or select Use my location. Then select Save.
  • Meeting link (online only): paste the link, starting with https://.
  • Contact: a phone number with its country code.

When an in-person meetup has a map point, its page shows a map and directions, and people can see how far away it is.

Once the meetup is published, changing its date, time or duration sends a notification to everyone who joined.

Set a joining fee

A meetup is free until you set a fee. A paid meetup has one fee, paid once before joining.

  1. On the manage page, go to Joining fee and select Set a fee (or Change).
  2. Type the Amount in rupees (0 = free).
  3. Check the line under the box. It shows what you receive per member on sikhami.com and in the Android app. Select How to see the full sum.
  4. Select Save.
  • Prices come in fixed steps. An amount between two steps is saved as the next step up. The lowest fee is ₹25 and the highest is ₹1,00,000.
  • A fee above ₹50,000 can only be paid on sikhami.com.
  • People who already joined keep their place and do not have to pay.
  • To make the meetup free again, set the amount to 0.
  • You can also change the fee from the meetup page itself.

Sikhami keeps a fee of 20% of the money that reaches it and pays you the rest. See What you earn on Sikhami.

Publish the meetup

To publish, the meetup needs a Cover picture, a Meetup name, an About text, a Category, a Date and time and a Duration. An in-person meetup also needs its venue: the kind of place and the first two address lines. The Finish the meetup box lists anything still missing. Select an item to jump to it.

Then select Publish at the top of the manage page. You see "Published. People can now find and join the meetup."

Attendees and the meetup chat

  • Select the going count on the meetup page (for example "12 going") to see who is going.
  • Select Chat on the meetup page to open the meetup chat. Only you and the people who joined can read and send messages.
  • You cannot remove someone from your meetup on the website. Hosts remove people in the Android app. A person who was removed sees Request to rejoin on the meetup page, and the host answers the request in the app.

Cancel or delete a meetup

There is no separate cancel button. You have two choices:

  • Unpublish: select Unpublish at the top of the manage page and confirm. The meetup disappears from Explore and the map, and everyone who joined gets a notification. You can publish it again later.
  • Delete: go to Danger zone, select Delete meetup and confirm with Delete. This removes the meetup for everyone, including the people who joined. You cannot undo it.

Questions

Can an online meetup have more than 4 people?

No. Online meetups have 4 seats, because the video session seats four people. For a larger online group you can go live or host a study room.

Are the people who joined told when I change the time?

Yes, if the meetup is published. A change to the date, time or duration sends them a notification.

Why can I not save the date?

Pick both a Date and a Time, and make sure they are in the future. Then select Save.

Can I change the fee after people have joined?

Yes. People who already joined keep their place. The new fee applies to people who join after the change.

What is the difference between a meetup and a club?

A meetup is a one-off session on a date. A club is an ongoing community with posts and a chat. See Create a club.
