Create a post
How to make a post on Sikhami with words, up to 10 photos and videos, or a single video, how to add topics, who can see your post, and the size limits.
Updated 22 October 2026
A post is something you share on your profile: words, photos, videos, a poll or a voice recording. Your followers and other learners can like it, comment on it, share it and save it.
This article explains how to make a post with words, photos and videos. Polls and voice posts are made in the same window and have their own articles: Polls and Voice posts.
Where to start a post
All of these open the same Create post window:
- On Home: click the box that says "What did you learn today?" with your first name, or the Post button beside it. The small icons under the box open the window ready for a Photo/video post, a Poll, a Video post or a Voice post. The Clip icon opens the clip upload page instead.
- From the Create menu: on a computer, click the grey Create button in the menu on the left. On a phone, tap Create (the + in the middle of the bottom tab bar). Then choose Post.
- From the Creator studio: open More, then Creator studio, and choose Post, Poll, Video or Voice clip. See Studios.
- The Create post page shows the same form on a page of its own. After you post from this page, Sikhami takes you to your profile.
A clip (a short vertical video, like a reel) is not a post. It has its own upload page. See Upload a clip.
What the Create post window has
- Your name and photo at the top, with a Public label and a topics button (it says Add topics until topics are chosen).
- A large box to write in. The smiley button at its corner, Add an emoji, adds an emoji where your cursor is.
- On a computer or tablet, a grey box Add photos or videos ("Up to 10, or drag them here").
- At the bottom, the Add to your post row with five icons: Photo or video, Poll, Video post, Voice post and Clip. On a phone the row shows the icons only.
- A wide Post button. It stays grey until there is something to post.
When you pick Poll, Video post or Voice post, the window title changes (for example to Create video post) and a black label with that name appears beside your name. Click the small cross on the label to go back to a plain post.
Write a post
- Open the Create post window.
- Type in the big box. Short posts show in large letters, like a status.
- Add topics if you want (see below).
- Click Post. You see "Post published" when it is done.
- A post can have up to 5,000 characters. A counter appears near the bottom right once you pass 4,000.
- Line breaks are kept.
- Web links you type become clickable.
- Words that start with # become hashtags, and @ followed by a username links to that person's profile. See Hashtags and mentions.
- In the feed, a long post shows its first 280 characters and a more link.
A post with words only (no photo, video or voice) is not shown on Home. It appears on the Posts tab of your profile, in Search and on hashtag pages. See Your Home feed.
Add photos and videos
- In the Create post window, click the Photo or video icon, or the Add photos or videos box. On a computer you can also drag files from your folder and drop them on the window.
- Pick one or more photos and videos. You can mix both kinds.
- To add more, click Add more. To take one out, click the cross on its corner.
- Write something if you want. It is optional when you add photos or videos.
- Click Post. A bar shows the upload progress. Keep the window open until you see "Post published".
| What | Limit |
|---|---|
| Photos and videos in one post | Up to 10 in total |
| Each photo | Under 20 MB |
| Each video | Under 100 MB |
| Other files (PDF, audio and so on) | Not allowed in a post |
If a file is too big, you see a message such as "photo.jpg is over 20 MB." and that file is left out. If you pick more than 10, only the first 10 are kept.
How several photos look
A post with one photo shows the whole photo at its own shape. A post with several photos or videos shows them in a sideways row: swipe it on a phone or scroll it on a computer. On the post's own page on a wide screen, they show as a slideshow with dots and arrows. Clicking a photo opens it full screen.
Post a single video
- Click the Video post icon (or the Video icon under the Home composer).
- Choose a video file under 100 MB. You can also click Choose a video.
- Check the preview. To pick a different video, click the cross on the preview.
- Add words if you want ("Say something about this (optional)").
- Click Post and wait for the upload bar to finish.
Sikhami takes a cover picture from the video by itself. The website has no length limit for a video post, only the 100 MB size limit. You can also add a video together with photos through Photo or video.
Add topics
Topics tell Sikhami what your post is about, so learners interested in those subjects find it.
- Click the topics button beside Public.
- Under Topics, choose up to 3 topics.
- Close the list by clicking the topics button again, or just click Post.
Sikhami fills in topics for you from what you said you want to learn. Change them if they do not fit this post. See Your interests. The exams a post is about can show as small labels under its words.
Who can see your post
- Posts are Public: any member who is logged in can open your post, for example from your profile or a shared link.
- If your post has a photo, a video or a voice recording, it can appear in other people's For you feed on Home, and in Following for the people who follow you.
- If your account is private, your posts are left out of other people's For you feed and the Polls page. See Private account and follow requests.
- When you post inside a club, the label says Club members and the box says "Share something with the club…". On the website you cannot post a poll or a clip in a club. See Clubs.
What you cannot do, and common problems
- You cannot edit a post after you publish it. To change it, delete it and post again. See Archive and delete posts.
- You cannot add a location, tag people in a photo, or schedule a post for later.
- You cannot make a post for paying members only. Only clips can be kept for members. See Memberships.
- If you close the window after writing or adding something, Sikhami asks "Discard this post?". Click Discard to throw it away, or cancel to keep working.
- If your account is suspended, the window says "You can't post right now" and explains why. See Account suspension and moderation.
