The verified badge

What the blue tick next to a person's name means, where you see it, how to ask Sikhami to verify your account, and what each status in Settings means.

Updated 22 October 2026

Some accounts have a small blue tick next to their name. This is the verified badge. Settings describes it like this: Verified accounts get a blue badge across Sikhami. Requests are reviewed manually.

This article is about the badge on a person's account. Teacher profiles, institutes, courses, notes and clubs can show a tick too.

What the badge means

  • The Sikhami team has verified the account.
  • Only the Sikhami team can give the badge. You cannot add it to your own account.
  • Asking for the badge is free. There is no way to buy it on the website.

Anyone can type a tick symbol into their name or bio. That is not the badge. The real badge is a blue tick shown after the name. If an account pretends to be verified, report it with Report in the ⋯ menu on its profile. See Report content.

Where you see it

  • Next to the name at the top of a profile.
  • Next to the person's name on their posts, clips, comments and stories.
  • In chats, in search results and in lists of people, such as followers and People to know on Explore.
  • On the public profile page of a public account.

Search can show only verified people or only posts by verified people. In the People filters, switch on Verified only. In the Posts filters, switch on Verified authors. See Search filters.

Ask for the badge

  1. Open Settings: on a computer, choose More, then Settings & privacy. On a phone, open the Profile tab, choose ⋯, then Settings & privacy.
  2. Choose Account ("Verification and account deletion").
  3. In the Verification box, choose Request verification.
  4. Sikhami shows "Verification request submitted".

What the Verification box says

The box saysWhat it means

The website does not list the rules the team uses to decide, and it does not show how long a review takes.

Ticks on teacher profiles, institutes and other pages

Teacher profiles, institutes, courses and notes have a tick of their own, shown on their pages and on their cards in lists and search. It is separate from the badge on your account.

  • A new teacher profile, institute, course or set of notes starts without a tick.
  • The website has a Request verification button only for your own account. There is no button to ask for a tick for a teacher profile, institute, course or notes.
  • Clubs also show a tick next to their name in lists.

Verified badge and verified contact details are different

When you confirm an email address or phone number with a code, that only proves the contact belongs to you. It does not give you the blue badge. See Verify your email and phone number.

The website does not say. While you wait, the Verification box shows Your request is under review.
