Join a study room

How to find and join live voice study rooms, listen, raise your hand to speak, use the mic, chat and ask doubts, enter paid rooms, leave a room, and listen to recordings.

Updated 22 October 2026

A study room is a live voice room where learners talk about a topic together. There is no video: only voices and a text chat. One person is the host. A few people speak on the stage, and everyone else listens.

Each room runs for a fixed time, set by its host, and then ends. This article is for members who join rooms. To start your own, see Host a study room.

Find a room

  • On a computer, open More in the left menu and choose Study rooms.
  • On a phone, tap Explore at the bottom, then Study rooms.
  • Or go straight to Study rooms.
TabWhat it shows
LivePublic rooms that are running now, the busiest first. With many rooms, they are also grouped by topic. A Listen back shelf shows recent recordings.

Use Any price, Free or Paid, and the Filters chip (language, level, exams, subjects, session type and topic), to narrow the list.

Each room card shows LIVE, the time left, the room name, the host, the price (or Free) and how full it is, for example 8/15.

Join a room

  1. Tap a room card. You join it straight away.
  2. You start as a listener, with your mic off. You can hear everyone on the stage.
  3. At the top you see the room name, the topic, the time left and a bar of the time used.

Private rooms

Private rooms are not listed. To join one, you need its 6-character code or its link from the host. Tap Join with code on the Study rooms page, type the code and tap Join.

Paid rooms

  1. When you open a paid room, you see what it costs: Entry lasts while the room is running; there is no refund if it ends early.
  2. Tap Enter for ₹….
  3. On the Checkout page, tap Pay ₹… and pay in the Razorpay window.
  4. After You are in, you go back to the room and join it.

Your entry is for that one room while it runs. See How to pay.

Speak in a room

  1. Tap Raise hand at the bottom. It changes to Hand raised, and others see a hand on your picture.
  2. The host can tap Let speak to bring you on the stage. Tap Hand raised to lower your hand if you change your mind.
  3. Once you are on the stage, your browser asks for permission to use your microphone. Allow it.
  4. Your mic is still off. Tap Unmute to talk, and Mute when you finish.
  5. A ring around a picture shows who is talking.
  • The number of speakers is limited by the host. If all speaker places are taken, the host cannot bring you up until someone leaves the stage.
  • The host can move you back to the listeners, or mute you. Then you see Muted by host and cannot unmute or raise your hand until the host allows it.
  • If you see Allow microphone access to speak, your browser blocked the mic. Allow it in your browser settings for sikhami.com and try again.

Chat and ask doubts

On a wide screen the chat is on the right. On a phone, tap the chat button at the bottom or the chat preview under the listeners. A number shows messages you have not read.

  • Type in Message the room… and send. Messages can be up to 1,000 characters.
  • To ask a doubt, tick Ask as a doubt before you send. Others can upvote it and answer it.
  • Use the All and Doubts chips to switch between the whole chat and the doubts only.
  • Open a doubt to read the replies or write one. The person who asked and the host can tap Mark as answer on a reply, and Mark solved on the doubt.
  • You can delete your own messages. The host can delete any message.

Leave, and when a room ends

  1. Tap Leave at the bottom.
  2. Confirm with Leave. You can come back while the room is still open.
  • Closing the browser tab also takes you out of the room. If your connection drops for about 5 minutes, your seat is removed.
  • With 5 minutes left, everyone sees 5 minutes left in this room. When the time is up, the room ends for everyone.
  • If the host leaves, another member becomes host, so the room carries on.
  • If the host removes you, you see You were removed from the room, and you cannot join that room again.
  • If a room is full, you see Room is full.

Recordings

Rooms hosted from the website are recorded while they run. A Rec sign at the top tells you the room is being recorded. Everything said on the stage can be in the recording.

  • After a free public room ends, its recording is listed under Recordings and Listen back. Anyone can play it, with the room's doubts under the player.
  • The recording of a paid room is private to its owner. Others see This room's recording is private.
  • Only the host can delete a recording.

Questions

Can people see me on video in a study room?

No. Study rooms are voice only. Others see your profile picture and name, and hear you only when you are on the stage and unmuted.

Why can I not hear anything?

Check your device's volume and that the browser tab is not muted. If nobody on the stage is talking, there is nothing to hear yet. Rings around pictures show who is talking.

Do I get a refund if a paid room ends early?

No. Entry lasts while the room is running, and there is no refund if it ends early. See Refunds for other payments.

Can I join a room after it ends?

No. An ended room shows This room has ended. If it was recorded and free, you can listen to the recording.

Is my voice recorded?

Rooms hosted from the website are recorded, and Rec shows at the top while recording. If you speak on the stage, your voice can be in the recording.

How do I invite a friend?

Tap the share button at the top of the room. It shares the room's link, and the code for a private room.
