Likes, comments and replies

How to like a post (also with a double tap), write comments with text, photos, GIFs or your voice, reply to a comment, and delete or report comments.

Updated 22 October 2026

Likes and comments are how you react to a post. A like says you enjoyed it. A comment lets you add your thoughts, ask a question or help someone, and a reply answers one comment directly.

Clips work a little differently: you vote on them instead of liking them. See Vote and comment on clips.

Like a post

  • Click or tap the heart under the post. It turns red and the number beside it goes up by one.
  • To take your like back, click the heart again.
  • Double tap: on a post with a photo or a video, double-tap (or double-click) the photo or video to like it. A heart pops up where you tapped. A double tap only adds a like; it never removes one.
  • The person who made the post gets a notification when you like it. You do not get a notification when you like your own post.

Every post you like is listed on your Liked posts page. See Saved and liked posts.

"Liked by" and the numbers under a post

  • The number beside the heart is how many likes the post has. The number beside the speech bubble is how many comments it has.
  • Under the buttons you may see "Liked by" and the name of someone you follow who liked the post recently. "and others" is added when more people liked it too. Click the name to open their profile.
  • Under the buttons you may also see how many views the post has. See Post insights and views.
  • The website does not show a full list of everyone who liked a post.

Write a comment

  1. Click the speech bubble under the post. The post opens on its own page with the comments.
  2. Click the box that says "Add a comment…" at the bottom.
  3. Type your comment. A comment can be up to 1,000 characters.
  4. Press Enter or click the send button. To start a new line without sending, press Shift and Enter together.

On a wide computer screen, a post with a photo or video opens side by side: the photo or video on the left, and the words, comments and comment box on the right. On a phone, the comments are under the post and the comment box stays at the bottom of the screen.

Other kinds of comments

The buttons to the left of the comment box add other things. Each one is posted as a comment straight away.

For a voice comment: tap the microphone, speak, then click the square button to post it, or the bin button to throw it away. The recording stops by itself at 2 minutes. See Send photos, files and voice notes for more about attachments.

Hashtags, @usernames and web links in a text comment become clickable. When you comment on someone's post, they get a notification.

Reply to a comment

  1. Click Reply under the comment.
  2. A line "Replying to" and the person's name appears above the box, and the box says "Write a reply…".
  3. Type your reply (or add a photo, GIF or voice note) and send it.
  4. To stop replying, click the cross on the "Replying to" line.
  • Replies are one level deep. You can reply to a comment, but not to a reply.
  • Under a comment with replies, click View 1 reply or View 3 replies (the number changes) to open them, and Hide replies to close them.

Like, delete and report comments

  • Like a comment: click the small heart at the right of the comment. The person who wrote it gets a notification.
  • Delete a comment: click the bin icon under the comment, then Delete. You see the bin on your own comments and, on your own posts, on everyone's comments. A deleted comment is removed for good.
  • Report a comment: click the flag icon under someone else's comment. See Report content.

You cannot edit a comment. Delete it and write it again.

How comments are listed

  • Your own comments come first, then other people's comments, the most popular first.
  • The page shows up to 20 of your comments and up to 20 comments from other people. Under each comment, up to 20 replies are shown.
  • If there are no comments yet, you see "No comments yet. Start the conversation."

Super Chat

On other people's posts, the button with a rupee sign next to the comment box sends a Super Chat: a paid message that is pinned above the comments for a while. You cannot send one on your own post. See Super Chat.

Questions

Can I see who liked my post?

Not as a full list. Under a post you may see "Liked by" and the name of one person you follow. Your post insights show how many people liked it, not who.

Why can't I reply to a reply?

Replies are one level deep. Reply to the main comment instead.

Can I delete a rude comment on my post?

Yes. On your own post you can delete any comment with the bin icon. You can also report it with the flag icon or block the person.

Can I edit my comment?

No. Delete it and write a new one.

Why is there no comment box?

If your account is suspended, you can read comments but not write them. A note explains why. See Account suspension and moderation.

I double-tapped a post I had already liked. Did it unlike it?

No. A double tap only adds a like. To remove a like, click the heart.
