Block someone
Block an account so you and that person stop seeing each other's profiles, posts and stories, and unblock it later from Settings.
Updated 22 October 2026
Blocking puts distance between you and another account. You stop seeing each other's profiles, posts and stories, and the buttons to follow or message are hidden. Sikhami does not send the person a notification when you block them.
Blocking is not the same as reporting. If someone breaks the rules, report them too, so Sikhami's team can look at it.
Block from a profile
- Open the person's profile.
- Select ⋯ at the end of the line with their posts and followers.
- Select Block.
- A box asks if you want to block them. Select Block. You see "Blocked".
Block from a post
- On a post by that person, select ⋯ at the top right of the post.
- Select Block.
- A box explains that they will not see your profile, posts or story, and you will not see theirs. Select Block.
The post disappears from the list you are looking at, and you see a message that the person is blocked.
Block from a chat
- On a wide computer screen, open the chat with that person.
- Select the Chat info button (the letter i) at the top right.
- In Details, select Block, then select Block again in the box.
On phones and smaller screens the chat has no Chat info button. Open the person's profile from the chat and block them there.
What blocking does
Blocking works in both directions.
- On their profile you see You blocked this account and "Unblock them from the menu to see their posts again." Their posts and other tabs are hidden.
- On your profile they see This account is not available and "You cannot interact with this account."
- The Follow and Message buttons are hidden on both profiles.
- Their posts are removed from your Home feed (both For you and Following) and from post lists such as search results, hashtags and polls. Your posts are removed from theirs in the same way.
- Their stories do not show in your story row, and yours do not show in theirs.
- They are left out of the People page and the People to follow suggestions for you, and you are left out for them.
What blocking does not do
- It does not take them off your followers or following list, or you off theirs.
- It does not delete the chats you already have with them.
- Their clips can still appear on the Clips page, and their comments can still show under other people's posts.
- You may still find each other in search.
- It does not report them. Use Report for that.
See and unblock the accounts you blocked
- Open Settings. The Blocked accounts row shows how many people you have blocked.
- Select Blocked accounts. You see each person's photo, name and username.
- Select Unblock next to a person.
- A box asks "Unblock this account?" and tells you they will be able to see your posts and message you again. Select Unblock.
You can also unblock from their profile (⋯ then Unblock) or, on a wide screen, from Chat info in your chat with them.
If you have not blocked anyone, the page says Nobody blocked.
Questions
Will the person know that I blocked them?
Sikhami does not send them a notification. If they open your profile, they see This account is not available.
Does blocking remove them from my followers?
No. They stay on your followers list, but your posts are hidden from their Home feed and your profile shows them This account is not available.
Can I block someone from my phone while chatting?
On phones the chat has no Chat info button. Open their profile, select ⋯, then Block.
Is blocking the same as reporting?
No. Blocking only changes what you and that person see. A report goes to Sikhami's team. If someone breaks the rules, do both.
What happens when I unblock someone?
Their profile, posts and stories show for you again, and yours for them. The Follow and Message buttons come back.
