Taxes on your sales: GST, TDS and TCS
How Sikhami deducts TDS and collects GST TCS on your sales, how GST works on Sikhami's fee, and where to find the totals and commission invoices you need for your tax filing.
Updated 22 October 2026
When you sell on Sikhami, Sikhami may take two kinds of tax from your earnings before it pays you: TDS (tax deducted at source) and, only if you are registered for GST, GST TCS (tax collected at source). Sikhami's own fee already includes GST. This article explains each one in plain words and shows where to find the numbers.
This is not tax advice. The rates below are the ones Sikhami uses now and shows on the Bank and tax details page. Ask your tax adviser how they apply to you. Any other tax on your earnings is yours to manage.
The short version
| Tax | Who it applies to | How much | Where it is reported |
|---|---|---|---|
| TDS under Section 194-O of the Income-tax Act | Every seller, with one exception for small individual sellers (see below) | 0.1% of your sales, or 5% if you have not given a PAN | Against your PAN. It shows in your Form 26AS. |
| GST TCS under Section 52 of the CGST Act | Only sellers who are registered for GST and whose details Sikhami has verified | 0.5% of the taxable value of your sales | Against your GSTIN. It shows on the GST portal. |
| GST on Sikhami's fee | Every seller | Already inside Sikhami's fee; nothing extra is taken | On Sikhami's monthly commission invoice to you |
Both deductions are listed on every payout statement and added up by quarter on your Earnings page.
TDS on your sales
- Sikhami deducts 0.1% of the full price the buyer paid for each sale, and deposits it against your PAN.
- If you have not given a PAN on Bank and tax details, the rate is 5%. Add your PAN to get the lower rate on later sales.
- If you are an individual or a Hindu Undivided Family with a PAN, nothing is deducted while your sales on Sikhami stay within ₹5 lakh in a financial year (1 April to 31 March). Sikhami knows this from the 4th letter of your PAN: P for a person, H for a Hindu Undivided Family.
- The ₹5 lakh counts every sale paid to the same PAN, for example your own sales and your institute's course sales together.
- If a sale takes your total for the year over ₹5 lakh, TDS is taken on that sale, and once more on the earlier sales of the same year that had no TDS.
On a course with co-teachers, TDS is worked out on the full sale of the course owner. Sikhami does not deduct TDS again on the co-teacher's share.
GST TCS
GST TCS applies only if you have turned on I am registered for GST on the Bank and tax details page, given your GSTIN, and Sikhami has verified your details.
- Sikhami collects 0.5% of the taxable value of your sales, which is the sale price without the GST inside it.
- It is reported against your GSTIN, so you can see it on the GST portal.
- If you are not registered for GST, no TCS is taken.
GST and Sikhami's fee
Sikhami keeps a fee of 20% of the money that reaches it from each sale. This fee already includes GST. GST is not added on top, so it does not change what you receive. For the full sum, read What you earn on Sikhami.
Your commission invoice
On the 1st of each month, Sikhami issues you a tax invoice for the fee it kept on the previous month's sales. To open it, go to Earnings, open the Commission invoices tab and tap the invoice. It shows:
- The invoice number, the date and the month it covers.
- Sikhami's name, address, state, GSTIN and PAN.
- Billed to: your legal name and address from your bank and tax details, and your GSTIN, or Unregistered for GST if you have none.
- Place of supply: your state, and whether it is Business to business (you have a GSTIN) or Business to consumer.
- One line for each kind of sale, with Taxable value, GST and Amount. Fees given back on refunds are shown on their own lines.
- The GST split: CGST and SGST when you are in the same state as Sikhami, IGST when you are not.
Nothing is payable on this invoice. The fee was already kept from your sales before your payouts. Press Print / save PDF to keep a copy.
GST on your own sales
Buyers pay the price you set. Sikhami does not add GST on top of your price. The buyer's invoice says the amount is inclusive of applicable taxes, if any, as declared by the seller. If you are registered for GST, any GST you owe on your own sales is for you to file.
If you sell courses through an institute, you can add the institute's GSTIN in its Details tab in the Learning studio, in GSTIN (optional). It is then printed on the invoices your students get.
See what was deducted
- Open Earnings and choose the TDS and TCS tab.
- Pick the financial year in the year box, for example FY 2026-27. You can choose this year or the two before it.
- Read the table. Each quarter has a row: Q1 (Apr–Jun), Q2 (Jul–Sep), Q3 (Oct–Dec) and Q4 (Jan–Mar). The columns are TDS 194-O, GST TCS and Given back. The last row is the total for the year.
Given back is tax that was reversed because a sale was refunded. In the Where your money came from tab, these lines are called Tax reversed.
You can also see the totals so far in your balance box (TDS deducted so far and GST TCS collected so far), and the amounts for each payout in its statement (TDS 194-O and GST TCS).
Before you file, match these figures with your Form 26AS for TDS and with the GST portal for TCS. If a year has more than 1,000 tax lines of one kind, the page says the totals cover only the first 1,000; ask Sikhami at help@sikhami.com for a full statement.
Questions
Why was 5% TDS taken from my sale?
You had not given a PAN when the sale was made. Add your PAN on Bank and tax details so that later sales are taxed at the lower rate.
I am not registered for GST. Is TCS taken from my sales?
No. GST TCS is only for sellers who are registered for GST and whose details Sikhami has verified.
Does Sikhami charge my buyers GST?
No. Buyers pay the price you set. Sikhami's GST is inside its own fee, which comes out of the sale.
Why does my commission invoice show GST if I did not pay anything?
The invoice is your record of the fee Sikhami kept from your sales. The GST is inside that fee. Nothing more is payable.
What happens to the tax if a sale is refunded?
The TDS or TCS on it can be given back. It shows as Tax reversed in the Where your money came from tab and in the Given back column of the TDS and TCS tab.
Is the ₹5 lakh limit for each account?
No. It counts all sales paid to the same PAN in the financial year, including your institute's course sales.
