Sponsored posts, clips and stories

How ads look in your home feed, clips, stories, search and Explore, why you see a particular ad, and how to hide an ad, hide an advertiser or report an ad.

Updated 22 October 2026

Sikhami shows some ads among the posts, clips and stories you see. They are paid for by teachers, institutes and other advertisers.

Every ad is labelled Sponsored with the advertiser's name, and every ad is checked by a person at Sikhami before anyone sees it. You can find out why you see an ad, hide it, hide everything from that advertiser, or report it.

Where ads appear and how they look

WhereHow oftenWhat it looks like
Home feedOne after every six posts.Like a post, with the advertiser's name and Sponsored where the time would be, a picture or video (or cards you swipe sideways), a strip with the headline and a button, and some text.
ClipsOne after every five clips on the Clips page.A full-screen picture or video with the advertiser's name, Sponsored, a headline, text and a button at the bottom.
StoriesOne after every three people's stories.A full-screen story. A picture stays for 5 seconds; a video plays for up to 15 seconds.
SearchAt most one, above the results, when your search matches words the advertiser chose.A result marked Sponsored · advertiser name, with a button.
ExploreOne between groups of 12 tiles in the Explore grid.Like a sponsored post in the home feed.

Video ads always play without sound.

In a sponsored story, tap the right side to move on, the left side to go back, hold your finger down to pause, and tap the close button to leave stories, just like an ordinary story.

What happens when you tap an ad

  • Most ads open a page on Sikhami: a course, a course bundle, notes, a club, a meetup or the advertiser's profile.
  • Some ads open the advertiser's own website, in a new tab.
  • Some ads open a short form for your details (a lead form). See the section below.

Whatever you buy or join after tapping an ad is bought or joined in the usual way; the ad does not change the price.

Why am I seeing this ad?

  1. Tap ⋯ on the ad.
  2. Choose Why am I seeing this ad?

You see the reasons in plain words, for example You want to learn Physics, You're interested in NEET, You're in Karnataka, You speak Hindi, You follow this advertiser, or People like you. Ads in the home feed show general reasons instead. Advertisers choose who to reach using things learners put on their profiles, such as topics, exams, subjects, level, state, language, gender, age and interests.

An advertiser can also reach people who have already followed them, watched their clips or bought from them, people on their own contact list, and people similar to those. If your email or phone number is on an advertiser's list, Sikhami matches it using one-way codes and never tells the advertiser who matched. This is shown to you as People like you; the name of the advertiser's list is never shown.

The same box has Hide this ad and Hide ads from the advertiser, which work like the menu items below.

Hide an ad or an advertiser

  1. Tap ⋯ on the ad.
  2. Choose Hide ad to stop seeing this ad, or Hide all ads from the advertiser's name to stop seeing every ad from them.
  • The ad disappears from your screen straight away, and Sikhami stops showing it to you.
  • Hiding an ad also counts against the ad's quality ranking, which Sikhami uses when it chooses which ads to show.
  • There is no screen to undo hiding an ad or an advertiser.
  • You cannot turn off all ads on Sikhami. You can hide as many ads and advertisers as you like.

Report an ad

Report an ad that is misleading, offensive or breaks Sikhami's rules.

  1. Tap ⋯ on the ad and choose Report ad.
  2. Choose a reason: Misleading or a scam; Promises exam results or ranks; Sexual or inappropriate; Violent or hateful; Offensive to me; or Something else.
  3. Choose Report.
  • The advertiser does not find out who reported the ad.
  • Sikhami reviews reported ads. You can report the same ad only once.
  • The ad is removed from your screen. To make sure you do not see it again, also choose Hide ad.
  • Reports also count against the ad's quality.

To report a post, clip, comment or person that is not an ad, see Report content.

Ads with a form (lead forms)

Some ads open a short form so the advertiser can contact you, for example to send a brochure.

  • The form opens inside Sikhami. Answers such as your name, email and phone number are filled in from your profile, and you can change any of them.
  • Under the questions you see who will receive your answers and a link to their privacy policy.
  • Nothing is sent until you choose Submit. Closing the form sends nothing.
  • Your answers go only to that advertiser, and Sikhami deletes them after 90 days.

Your privacy

  • Advertisers do not get your name, email or phone number from an ad, unless you send them a lead form.
  • They see only totals, such as how many people saw or tapped the ad, split by things like age group, gender, state, device and time of day. They never see who you are.
  • Anyone can see the ads that have run on Sikhami, and who paid for them, in the public Ad Library.

Questions

Can I turn off ads?

No. You cannot switch off all ads, but you can hide any ad, and every ad from an advertiser, from the ⋯ menu on the ad.

I hid an ad by mistake. Can I undo it?

No. There is no screen to undo hiding an ad or an advertiser.

Is every ad checked before it is shown?

Yes. A person at Sikhami approves each ad before it can run, and an ad that is changed afterwards is checked again. If you think an ad should not have been approved, use Report ad.

Why do I keep seeing the same ad?

Advertisers choose how often one person may see their ads, and Sikhami shows you the same ad at most 3 times a day. If you do not want to see it, choose Hide ad.

Do advertisers know that I tapped their ad?

No. They see how many people tapped, not who. Only a lead form that you send gives an advertiser your details.

Why is the video in an ad silent?

Video ads always play without sound on Sikhami.
