Verify your email and phone number
When Sikhami asks you to prove an email address or phone number with a code or a link, how to do it, the limits on codes, who sees verified contact details, and how to fix common problems.
Updated 22 October 2026
Sometimes Sikhami needs to be sure that an email address or phone number really belongs to you. It sends a code or a link, and you prove the address or number is yours by using it.
This keeps people from using an email or phone number that is not theirs, and makes sure messages from Sikhami reach the right person.
When Sikhami asks
| Situation | How you prove it |
|---|---|
| Signing up or logging in with a phone number | A 6-digit code by SMS. See Sign up and log in. |
| Signing up with email | A verification link by email. You must open it before your first login. |
| Keeping a guest account with a phone number | A 6-digit code by SMS. See Guest accounts. |
| Saving a contact email on your teacher profile or institute | A 6-digit code by email |
| Saving a contact phone number on your teacher profile, institute or meetup | A 6-digit code by SMS |
| Signing up with Google | Nothing. Google has already checked your email address. |
Verify a contact email
Teacher profiles and institutes have an Email field in Learning studio. The address is saved only after you prove it is yours.
- Type the email address in Email and choose Save.
- A box called Verify your email opens. It says Sikhami will email a 6-digit code, and that the address is saved only after you enter it.
- Choose Send code.
- Open your email. The code is valid for 10 minutes. Check your spam folder too.
- Type the code in Code and choose Verify.
- Sikhami shows "Email verified", and the address is saved.
- You can ask for a new code after 45 seconds. The button shows Resend in 45s and counts down, then changes to Resend code.
- You can ask for at most 6 codes in an hour.
- After 5 wrong tries, the code stops working. Ask for a new one.
- A code works only for the address it was sent to.
- To remove an email, empty the field and save. That needs no code.
Verify a contact phone number
Teacher profiles, institutes and meetups have a contact phone number with two boxes: Code for the country code (for example 91 for India) and Phone for the number.
- Fill in Code and Phone, then choose Save.
- A box called Verify your number opens. It says Sikhami will text a 6-digit code, and that the number is saved only after you enter it.
- Choose Send code. The code arrives by SMS.
- Type the code in Code and choose Verify.
- Sikhami shows "Number verified", and the number is saved.
- You can ask for a new code after 45 seconds with Resend code.
- The number needs at least 6 digits and a country code. If not, you see "Please check the number and its country code."
- To remove a number, empty the field and save. That needs no code.
Verifying a contact number does not change how you log in. If you log in with a phone number, your login number stays the same.
Who sees verified contact details
- Teacher profile: your email is shown on your public teacher page. Your phone number is not shown.
- Institute: the email and phone number are shown on the public institute page, so learners can email or call.
- Meetup: the phone number is shown to people who joined the meetup.
Your account's own email and phone number
- The email or phone number you log in with cannot be changed on the website. The Settings page says: Changing your email or phone number is still done in the app. See The Sikhami Android app.
- Notification emails go only to a verified address. The notification settings say: Emails only go to a verified address, and only for things you have not already seen in the app. See Email notifications.
