Go live

Stream live video from your browser with your camera and microphone, chat with viewers, receive Super Chats and end the live. Also how lives are saved under Past lives and who can see them.

Updated 22 October 2026

Going live means streaming video from your camera to people on Sikhami as it happens. Viewers watch, like and comment while you stream. When you end the live, it is saved under Past lives so people can watch it later.

You can go live from a computer or from a phone browser that allows camera and microphone use. To watch other people's lives, see Watch live streams.

Start a live

  1. Open Create and choose Live, or open Live and select Go live. The Go live box opens.
  2. Type a Title (up to 80 characters) that says what the live is about. If you leave it empty, Sikhami uses your name, for example "Asha is live".
  3. Select Start.
  4. When your browser asks, allow the camera and the microphone. Your live starts on the next screen.

If you block the camera or microphone, the screen says "Allow camera and microphone access to go live." Allow them in your browser's settings and try again. Some browsers cannot go live at all; they show "Going live is not supported in this browser".

While you are live

Your camera fills the screen. The top shows your title, "You are live", a Live label and the number of people watching now. The round buttons at the bottom control your stream:

ButtonWhat it does
Mute / UnmuteTurns your microphone off or on.
Camera off / Camera onTurns your camera off or on.
Switch cameraChanges to your other camera, if your device has more than one, for example the back camera of a phone.
End liveEnds the live (see below).

Comments

The chat sits beside the video on wide screens and under it on phones. You see when someone joins and what they write, and you can write too. To stop viewers from commenting, select Comments on next to the comment box. It changes to Comments off, and viewers see "Comments are off". Select it again to turn comments back on.

Super Chat

Viewers can send you a Super Chat: a paid message that stays pinned at the top of the chat for a while. The money goes to you, after Sikhami's fee. See Super Chat.

Keep the live page open. If you leave the page or close the tab, your live ends.

What viewers see

  • Your video, with your title, your name, a Live label and the number of viewers.
  • A heart button to like the live, with the number of likes.
  • The chat, where they can comment (up to 200 characters) and send you a Super Chat.
  • If your connection becomes weak, a message that says "Host connection unstable…".

Viewers find your live on the Live page, where lives are listed with the most watched first.

End the live

  1. Select End live (the red button).
  2. In the End live? box, select End. To carry on instead, select Keep going.
  3. Confirm with End live.

Viewers are disconnected and see that the live has ended, with its number of views and likes.

How your live is saved

While you stream, your browser also records the live. When it ends, you see "Saving your live…" and then "Your live is saved under Past lives." Keep the tab open until the second message appears. If you try to close the tab while it is saving, the browser asks you first.

Some browsers cannot record. In that case the live still runs, but it is not saved.

Who can see your live

  • If your account is public, your live is listed on the Live page while it runs, and the saved live is listed there under Past lives afterwards.
  • If your account is private, your live and your saved lives are not listed on the Live page. People who have the link to the live can still open it.
  • A saved live shows its title, your name, when you went live, its length and its number of views.

To learn more about private accounts, see Private account and follow requests.

Delete a saved live

  1. Open your saved live from Past lives on the Live page.
  2. Select Delete under the video.
  3. Confirm with Delete.

The live is removed from Past lives. You cannot undo this.

Questions

Can I go live from my phone?

Yes, in a phone browser that allows camera and microphone use. Select Switch camera to change between the front and the back camera.

Can I turn off comments?

Yes. Select Comments on next to the comment box while you are live. Select Comments off to turn them back on.

What happens if I close the tab by mistake?

Your live ends at once, and the recording cannot be saved. To keep a live, end it with End live and keep the tab open until you see "Your live is saved under Past lives."

Can I go live while my account is suspended?

No. A suspended account can watch lives, but it cannot go live or write in a live chat.

Can I earn money from a live?

Yes. Viewers can send you Super Chats during your live. See Super Chat.

Can people watch my live after it ends?

Yes, if it was saved. If your account is public, it is listed under Past lives on the Live page until you delete it.
