Voice posts

How to record a voice post of up to 2 minutes on the website, how to play voice posts, and where they appear.

Updated 22 October 2026

A voice post is a post with a short sound recording of your voice. Use it to explain a concept, read a poem, practise a language or answer a question out loud. You can add a few words to go with it.

On the website you record the voice post with your microphone, right in the Create post window.

Record and post a voice post

  1. Open the voice post form in one of these ways: on Home, click the Voice icon (a microphone) under the "What did you learn today?" box; in the Create post window, click the Voice post icon in the Add to your post row; or open More, then Creator studio, and choose Voice clip.
  2. The window title changes to Create voice post. Tap the microphone button. The first time, your browser asks if Sikhami may use your microphone. Allow it.
  3. Speak. A red dot and a timer show that you are recording.
  4. To finish, click the square button. To throw the recording away and start again, click the bin button.
  5. Listen to your recording in the player that appears. If you do not like it, click the cross on the player and record again.
  6. Add words if you want ("Say something about this (optional)") and choose topics with the topics button.
  7. Click Post. A bar shows the upload progress. You see "Post published" when it is done.

A recording can be up to 2 minutes long. At 2 minutes the recording stops by itself and keeps what you said.

Rules and limits

  • One recording per voice post.
  • Up to 2 minutes for each recording.
  • On the website you can only record. You cannot upload an audio file from your computer or phone.
  • The words with a voice post can be up to 5,000 characters, and they can have hashtags. See Hashtags and mentions.
  • You can post a voice post inside a club too. See Clubs.
  • You cannot edit a voice post after you publish it.

Play a voice post

A voice post shows a dark player with a play button, a row of bars that show the sound, and the length of the recording.

  • Click the play button to listen. Click it again to pause.
  • Click anywhere on the bars to jump to that part of the recording.
  • On a computer, after you click the bars, the left and right arrow keys move back or forward 5 seconds.
  • Only one voice recording plays at a time. If you start another, the first one pauses.
  • The time shown changes from the full length to the time played while you listen.

The same player is used for voice comments and for voice messages in chats.

Where voice posts appear

  • Home. Voice posts can appear in For you and Following. See Your Home feed.
  • Your profile. Your voice posts are on the Voice tab, not on the Posts tab.
  • Search. In Search, choose Posts and set Post type to Audios in the filters.
  • Archive. Archived voice posts are on the Voice tab of the Archive page. See Archive and delete posts.

Listening time in your insights

When people listen to your voice post, Sikhami counts the listening time. Open the ⋯ menu on your voice post and choose View insights to see Total listening time, Average listening time and Listened to the end. Only you can see these numbers. See Post insights and views.

Questions

The microphone button does nothing. What do I do?

Your browser may have blocked the microphone. Allow microphone access for sikhami.com in your browser settings and try again. If you see "Voice messages are not supported in this browser.", update your browser or try a different one.

Can I upload a recording I already have?

Not on the website. You can only record a new voice post here.

How long can a voice post be?

Up to 2 minutes. The recording stops by itself at 2 minutes.

Why is my voice post not on the Posts tab of my profile?

Voice posts have their own Voice tab on your profile.

Can I add a photo to a voice post?

No. A voice post has one recording and optional words. Make a separate post for photos.
