Watch lessons and track your progress

How the course player works: playing lectures, playback speed, how your progress is saved and resumed, lectures that open later, tests inside a course, and the notes, doubts and announcements tabs.

Updated 22 October 2026

After you enrol in a video course, you watch it in the course player. The player shows one lecture at a time, keeps track of what you have finished, and remembers where you stopped.

This article explains each part of the player. To join a course first, see Enrol in a course.

Open the course player

  • Open My learning and tap the course.
  • Or open the course page and tap Continue learning.
  • Or, on the course page, tap any lecture in Course content. The player opens on that lecture.

On a wide screen, the video is on the left and the Course content list is on the right. On a phone, the list is under the video. The Course page button at the top takes you back to the course's page.

If you open the player for a course you have not joined, you see Enrol in this course to watch its lectures, with a Go to the course button.

Play lectures

  • Under the video you see Lecture 3 of 20 (for example), the length, the title and the teacher's description of the lecture.
  • Speed changes how fast the video plays, from 0.5× to 2×. Your choice is kept for every lecture you watch in this browser.
  • Previous and Next move between lectures. You can also tap any lecture in Course content.
  • Lectures from YouTube play inside the player too.
  • Lectures play inside Sikhami. There is no download button.

How your progress is saved

  • While a video plays, your place in it is saved every 20 seconds, and again when you pause. When you come back to that lecture, it starts from where you stopped.
  • When you open the course again, the player opens on the last lecture you watched.
  • When a video plays to the end, it is marked complete and the next lecture starts. After the last one you see You finished the last lecture.
  • You can also tap Mark complete under a video. It then reads Completed. Tap it again to undo.
  • At the top of Course content, a bar shows how much you have done, for example 12 of 20 completed · 60%. Finished lectures have a tick.

Your progress is saved to your Sikhami account. Your playback speed is saved only in the browser you use.

To get a certificate, every video must be marked complete and every test passed. See Course certificates.

Lectures that open later

A teacher can release a course step by step. Then some lectures open a number of days after you joined. In Course content such a lecture shows Opens and a date. If you select it, the player says This lecture opens on that date, and Your teacher releases this course step by step. Come back on that date to watch it.

Take a test inside a course

Some courses have tests between the lectures. In Course content they have a test icon and the word Test. A test is a set of multiple-choice questions.

  1. Select the test. You see its title, the teacher's instructions, the number of questions, the Pass mark and the time limit (or No time limit).
  2. Tap Start test.
  3. Pick one answer for each question. The bar at the top shows how many you have answered and, if there is a time limit, the time left.
  4. Tap Submit. If the time runs out first, your answers are sent by themselves.
  5. You see your score, how many you got right, and whether you passed. Every question shows the correct answer, your answer and the teacher's explanation.
  • Tap Retake test or Take it again to try again. You can retake a test as many times as you like.
  • Before you start, the test shows your best score and how many attempts you have made.
  • When you pass, the test is marked complete in Course content. A test cannot be marked complete by hand.

The tabs under the video

TabWhat it is for
OverviewThe course description, what you learn, and any study material the teacher listed.
AnnouncementsMessages from the teacher to everyone in the course. You also get a notification for each new one.
NotesYour own private notes and bookmarks. Only you can see them.
DoubtsQuestions to the teacher about a lecture. Everyone in the course can see them and the answers.
Q&AThe course's public questions and answers, the same as on the course page.
ReviewsRatings and reviews of the course. You can write or edit yours here.

Notes and bookmarks

  1. Open the Notes tab while a video is playing or paused.
  2. Type in the box and tap Save note. The note is pinned to the moment you are at in the video.
  3. Or tap Bookmark this moment to save the moment without text.
  4. Tap the time on a note to jump back to that moment, even in another lecture.
  5. Use This lecture or Whole course to choose which notes you see. Edit and the bin icon change or remove a note.

Ask a doubt

  1. Open the Doubts tab while you watch the lecture you are stuck on.
  2. Type your question in the box and tap Ask doubt. It is pinned to the moment you are watching.
  3. Your teacher is told about it. Until they answer, it shows Waiting for the teacher. After the teacher replies, it shows Answered, and you get a notification.
  4. Tap the time on a doubt to jump to that moment. Tap Reply (or the number of replies) to read the answers and add your own.

Other students in the course can read your doubts and the answers, so one answer helps everyone. You can delete your own doubt; its replies go with it.

When your access ends

If you bought the course for a set period, the player stops opening when that period is over. It says Your access to this course ended on and the date, with a Buy it again button. Your progress, notes and any certificate you already got are kept. See Enrol in a course.

Questions

Can I download the lecture videos?

No. Lectures play inside Sikhami, and the player has no download button. You need an internet connection to watch.

Why does a lecture say Enrol in the course to watch this lecture?

Sikhami could not confirm that you are enrolled, or your access has ended. Open the course page and check the button: Continue learning means you are enrolled. Reload the page and try again.

I watched a lecture but it is not marked complete. Why?

A lecture is marked complete when the video plays to the end, or when you tap Mark complete. If you skipped the last part, tap Mark complete yourself.

Who can see my notes?

Only you. Notes and bookmarks in the Notes tab are private.

Who can see my doubts?

The teacher and every student in the course can read the doubts asked on its lectures, with the replies.

How many times can I take a course test?

As many times as you like. The test shows your best score and the number of attempts.
