Club and meetup chats
How the group chats of clubs and meetups work: who can read and write, how to open them, what happens when a paid club membership ends, and how to leave.
Updated 22 October 2026
Every club and every meetup on Sikhami has its own group chat. A club is a group of learners around a subject, an exam or an interest. A meetup is a study event, online or in person. Their chats let all the members talk together in one place.
Only members can read and write in these chats. Sikhami has no other kind of group chat: direct chats are always between two people. See Clubs and Meetups to learn how to join.
Who is in the chat
| Chat | Who can read and send messages |
|---|---|
| Club chat | The club's members and the person who created the club (the owner) |
| Meetup chat | Everyone who is going and the person who created the meetup (the host) |
Everyone in the chat sees every message, with the name and photo of the person who sent it. Tap a photo to open that person's profile.
People who have not joined see Join to see the chat and "Only members can read and send messages here.", with a button that takes them to the club or meetup page.
In a paid club, you can use the chat only while your membership is active. See the section on paid clubs below.
Open a club or meetup chat
- Open the club or meetup page. Once you have joined, a Chat button appears next to Joined or Going. Tap it.
- Or open Messages and tap the Clubs or Meetups tab, then tap the chat.
A club or meetup appears in your chat list only after someone has sent the first message in its chat. Until then, open the chat from the club or meetup page.
When there are new messages from others since you last opened the chat, its row in your chat list is bold with a blue dot.
Right after you join, the chat can take a few seconds to open for you. If you see an error straight after joining, wait a moment and open the chat again.
What you can send
- Text messages of up to 2,000 characters.
- Photos, camera pictures, documents, a location or a contact card from the paperclip, voice notes from the microphone, and GIFs. See Send photos, files and voice notes.
- Sikhami links. A message that contains only a Sikhami share link is shown as a card. See Share posts and more in a chat.
Group chats do not have call buttons or Super Chat. Those work only in one-to-one chats.
Paid clubs: when your membership ends
A paid club is sold for a period, such as 1 month, 3 months, 6 months or 1 year. Some older paid clubs are sold for a lifetime. The club page shows the date: "Your membership runs until" followed by the date.
When your period ends, the club chat locks. It shows Your membership has ended and "Renew it to read and send messages in this club again.", with a Renew button.
- Tap Renew in the chat. It takes you to the club page.
- Tap Renew for ₹… on the club page.
- On the checkout page, pick a period under How long, if there is a choice.
- Tap Renew with the price, and pay.
- The chat opens again for you.
Memberships do not renew by themselves. If you joined a club while it was free, you keep its chat even if the owner adds a price later.
A paid meetup is paid once. Its chat does not lock after a period. For payment help, see How to pay.
Notifications from group chats
Club and meetup chats do not send notifications, browser notifications or emails. To see new messages, check Messages for the blue dot.
Leave a club or meetup chat
You leave a group chat by leaving the club or meetup.
- Open the club page and tap Joined. (For a meetup, open the meetup page and tap Going.)
- Sikhami asks "Leave this club?" (or "Leave this meetup?"). Tap Leave.
After you leave, you can no longer read or send messages in that chat. You can join again later. You cannot mute a group chat, or leave the chat but stay in the club. If you paid and want your money back, see Refunds.
Safety
Everything you send can be seen by every member, and you cannot delete messages on the website. Follow the Community guidelines.
To report a member, tap their photo in the chat to open their profile, tap ⋯ (More options) and choose Report or Block. To report the club or meetup itself, use the flag (Report) button on its page.
