Notifications

What the Notifications page shows, how grouped rows like "and 3 others" work, the follow requests row, the unread number, and where to change notification settings.

Updated 22 October 2026

Notifications tell you when something happens that involves you: someone likes your post, comments on it, follows you, sends you a message, buys something you sell, and more.

You see them on the Notifications page. You can also get them as browser notifications and by email.

Where to find them

On a computer, click Notifications (the heart) in the menu on the left. On a phone, open Home and tap the heart at the top right.

A pink number on the heart shows how many notifications you have not opened yet. It counts up to 20.

What you get notified about

  • Likes and upvotes: likes on your posts, stories and comments, upvotes on your clips, and likes on your quizzes, courses, clubs, meetups, institute and teacher profile.
  • Comments on your posts and clips.
  • People: new followers, follow requests, and people who follow your institute or teacher profile.
  • Messages in your one-to-one chats.
  • Joins and downloads: people joining your club or meetup, and people downloading your notes.
  • Sales: someone buys your notes, a place in your club, meetup or study room, your course bundle or your membership, sends you a Super Chat, or applies to your course.
  • Courses: announcements in courses you are enrolled in, doubts asked on your courses and replies to your doubts.
  • Reviews and questions on things you made.
  • Meetups you are going to: when the host changes the time or cancels the meetup.
  • Quiz challenges from other learners.
  • Money and ads: refunds, payouts, payout details, and updates about your ads.
  • Messages from Sikhami.

Messages in club and meetup chats do not create notifications.

How the page is arranged

Notifications are listed newest first, under the headings Today, Yesterday, This week, This month and Earlier.

  • Each row has a photo of the person, a small coloured sign for the kind of notification (a heart for likes, a speech bubble for comments, a person for follows, a paper plane for messages), the text, and how long ago it happened.
  • A small picture of the post or clip it is about may show on the right.
  • Rows you have not opened have a light grey background. Rows without a picture also show a blue dot until you open them.

Grouped rows

Similar notifications are put together in one row. For example, "asha_21, ravi.k and 12 others liked your post" is one row for all the likes on that post. Messages make one row per chat, such as "asha_21 sent you 5 messages". All your new followers share one row.

When something new happens, the row moves back to the top and becomes unread again.

Follow requests

If your account is private and people have asked to follow you, a Follow requests row sits at the top. It shows the newest person and how many others are waiting, for example "+ 2 others". Tap it to see and answer the requests. See Private account and follow requests.

Turn on notifications card

If your browser has not been asked yet, a Turn on notifications card appears at the top of the page. See Browser notifications.

Open and read notifications

Tap a row to open what it is about: the post, the clip, the chat, the course, the club or the meetup. Opening a row marks it as read, and the pink number goes down.

  • A story like opens Home, where your story is.
  • Rows about questions and answers do not open a page on the website.
  • There is no button to mark all notifications as read, and you cannot delete a notification.
  • The page shows your 20 newest notifications.

Notification settings

Open More (on a phone: your profile, then ⋯), choose Settings & privacy, then Notifications. You can also go straight to Notification settings. The page has three parts.

SettingWhat the page says
Browser notificationsPop-up notifications in this browser. See Browser notifications.
Pause allSilence every notification until you turn this off.
PostsLikes and comments on your posts and clips
FollowsNew followers and follow requests
MessagesDirect, club and meetup messages
ReviewsReviews and questions on things you created
CoursesUpdates from courses you follow
TeachersUpdates from teachers you follow
DashboardInsights and creator updates
EmailWhich notifications also come by email. See Email notifications.

As the page explains, the switches from Pause all to Dashboard are shared with the Sikhami Android app. Browser notifications are separate from the ones the app sends, and both can be on.

To stop pop-ups in this browser, turn off Browser notifications. To stop emails, use the Email switches. Your notifications always stay on the Notifications page.

Common problems

  • An old notification is at the top. It is a grouped row. Someone new liked, commented or followed, so the row moved up.
  • The pink number does not go down. Open each unread row. Only opening a row marks it as read.
  • I got no notification for a club chat message. Club and meetup chats do not send notifications.
  • I got no notification for a message. No notification is sent while you already have that chat open.

Questions

Why does one row say "and 25 others"?

Sikhami groups notifications of the same kind about the same thing. The row names the two newest people and counts the rest.

Can I delete a notification?

No. You can open it, which marks it as read.

Are my notifications the same in the Android app?

Yes. The website and the Sikhami Android app show the same notifications.

How do I get notifications when Sikhami is closed?

Turn on browser notifications, or keep email notifications on. See Browser notifications and Email notifications.

Where is the settings button on the Notifications page?

There is none. Use Settings & privacy, then Notifications.
