Followers and following

How to follow and unfollow people on Sikhami, see who follows you and who you follow, and what changes when you follow someone.

Updated 23 October 2026

When you follow someone on Sikhami, you choose to see what they share. Their posts appear in the Following tab of your Home feed, and their stories appear in the story row at the top of Home.

This article explains how to follow and unfollow, how to see your followers and the people you follow, and what each side sees.

Follow someone

You can follow a person from these places:

  • Their profile: open the profile and select Follow.
  • A clip: while a clip plays, select the small Follow button next to the creator's name. The button goes away once you follow them.
  • A story: when you watch a story from someone you do not follow, a Follow button shows at the top, next to their name.
  • Suggestions: on wide screens, the column to the right of the Home feed has People to follow. Select a person to open their profile. You can also browse the People page.

After you select Follow, the button changes to Following and their follower count goes up by one.

If the account is private, Follow sends a follow request instead. The button then shows Requested until the owner accepts. See Private account and follow requests.

Teacher and institute pages have their own Follow button. See Teachers and institutes.

Unfollow someone

  1. Open the person's profile.
  2. Select Following.
  3. A box asks if you want to unfollow them. Select Unfollow.

Their posts stop showing in your Following tab, and their follower count goes down by one. Sikhami does not send them a notification when you unfollow.

You can unfollow only from the person's profile. The followers and following lists and the clip Follow button do not have an unfollow option.

See your followers and the people you follow

  1. Open your profile with Profile in the menu.
  2. Below your bio and details you see one line, for example "12 posts · 40 followers · 35 following".
  3. Select followers to see who follows you, or following to see who you follow.
  4. The list shows each person's photo, name, username and blue badge if they are verified. Select a person to open their profile.

You can open these two lists on anyone's profile in the same way, including private accounts.

Each list shows up to 20 people, starting with the most recent follow. The number on the profile counts everyone.

What following changes

  • Following tab: the Home feed has two tabs, For you and Following. Following shows posts only from the accounts you follow. It has no clips and no ads. If it is empty, you see "Nothing from your following yet".
  • Story row: the top of Home shows a ring for each account you follow that has a story right now.
  • Liked by: under a post you may see Liked by with the name of someone you follow who liked it.
  • Private accounts: once a private account accepts your request, you see its highlights and tabs on its profile, its posts in your Following tab and its stories in your story row.

To learn how the two Home tabs work, see Your Home feed.

Notifications about followers

  • When someone follows you, you get a notification that they started following you.
  • When several people follow you, Sikhami groups them into one row, for example "asha_k, ravi.s and 3 others started following you".
  • To turn these off, open Settings, select Notifications and turn off Follows (new followers and follow requests).
  • Emails about new followers are controlled by Followers in the Email part of the same page.

Read more in Notifications and Email notifications.

Follow back

Sikhami has no separate Follow back button. To follow someone who follows you:

  1. Open your profile and select followers.
  2. Select the person's name to open their profile.
  3. Select Follow.

Questions

Does the person know when I unfollow them?

Sikhami does not send a notification when you unfollow. Your name leaves their followers list and their follower count goes down by one.

Can I remove someone from my followers?

Not on the website. You can block them, which hides your posts from them, but it does not take them off your followers list. You can also make your account private so that new followers need your approval.

Why does the button say Requested?

The account is private. Your follow request is waiting for the owner. Select Requested if you want to cancel it.

Who can see my followers and following lists?

Anyone who is logged in to Sikhami can open both lists from your profile, even if your account is private.

I followed someone. Why don't I see their posts?

Check the Following tab on Home, not For you. If the account is private, you see its posts only after the owner accepts your request. If they have not posted yet, there is nothing to show.

Why does my followers list show fewer people than my follower count?

The list shows only the 20 most recent follows. The count on your profile includes everyone.
