Set up your profile
What happens right after you sign up: the Finish setting up page, choosing your name and username, picking what you want to learn, and the next steps that make Sikhami useful.
Updated 23 October 2026
Before you can use Sikhami, your account needs a name and a username. The Finish setting up page asks for both, and lets you pick what you want to learn. It takes about a minute.
After that, a few more details, such as a photo and a short bio, help other learners know who you are.
When you see Finish setting up
- If you sign up with a phone number or email, Sikhami opens Finish setting up right after you log in for the first time.
- If you sign up with Google, your name comes from your Google account and Sikhami makes a username for you, so you go straight to Home. You can change both later.
- If you start as a guest, you also go straight to Home. See Guest accounts.
Until your name and username are saved, every Sikhami page brings you back to Finish setting up.
Fill in Finish setting up
The page says: Pick the name and username people will see.
- Full name: type the name people will see on your profile, posts and messages. It must be at least 6 characters and can be up to 60. If your first name is short, add your surname.
- Username: Sikhami fills in a suggestion. Keep it or type your own. It must be 6 to 28 characters, using lower-case letters, numbers, dots and underscores. Capital letters you type become lower-case. See Choose or change your username.
- What do you want to learn?: this is optional. Tap the categories you are interested in, such as Competitive exams, Music & singing or Dance. You can pick up to 10. Tap a category again to remove it.
- Choose Continue.
Sikhami then takes you to the page you were trying to open, or to Home.
| Message | What it means |
|---|---|
| Name must be at least 6 characters. | Make your name longer, for example by adding your surname. |
| Username must be 6–28 characters. | Make the username longer or shorter. |
| Only lowercase letters, numbers, dots and underscores. | Remove spaces, hyphens and other symbols. |
| That username is already taken. | Someone has it already. Try another one, for example with a number or a dot. |
Your profile picture
If you signed up with Google, your Google photo becomes your profile picture. Otherwise Sikhami gives you a picture with the first letter of your name. Add your own photo any time in Edit your profile.

Questions
Can I skip Finish setting up?
No. Sikhami needs a name and a username before you can use it. Only What do you want to learn? is optional.
Can I change my name or username later?
Yes. Open your profile, choose Edit profile, change them and choose Save.
Why must my name be at least 6 characters?
That is the rule for names on Sikhami. If your name is shorter, add your surname or your full first name.
I signed up with Google and never saw this page. Is that a problem?
No. Your name came from Google and Sikhami made a username for you. Check both in Edit profile and change them if you like.
Can I choose more than 10 categories?
No. You can pick up to 10 things you want to learn. In Edit profile you can replace whole categories with exact sub-categories or topics.
