Send photos, files and voice notes

How to send photos, camera pictures, documents, a location, a contact card, voice notes and GIFs in a chat, with the size limits for each.

Updated 22 October 2026

In a chat you can send more than words. The grey box at the bottom of a chat, where you type, has three tools: the paperclip for photos and files, the microphone for voice notes, and the GIF button for short moving pictures.

These tools work the same way in direct chats, club chats and meetup chats.

The paperclip menu

Tap the paperclip (Attach) at the left of the message box. A small menu opens with five choices.

ChoiceWhat it saysWhat it sends
PhotoFrom your galleryA picture saved on your device
CameraTake a photo nowA new photo from your camera or webcam
DocumentPDF, notes, any fileAny file, shown as a card to download
LocationShare a place on the mapA map card with a pinned place
ContactName and numberA contact card with a name, phone and email

Each choice is sent as its own message, straight away. You cannot add words to the same message. Type them in a separate message.

Send a photo

  1. Tap the paperclip, then Photo.
  2. Choose one picture from your device. It is sent at once.

You can send one photo at a time. It must be an image file under 10 MB. In the chat, tap a photo to open it full size in a new tab.

Take a photo with your camera

  1. Tap the paperclip, then Camera.
  2. The first time, your browser asks to use the camera. Choose Allow.
  3. Tap Take photo. To use your other camera (for example the front or back camera of a phone), tap the Switch camera button first.
  4. Look at the photo. Tap Retake to try again, or Use photo to send it.

If you see "Camera access was refused", allow the camera for sikhami.com in your browser's site settings and try again. "This browser cannot use the camera" means your browser cannot do this. Try another browser.

Send a document

  1. Tap the paperclip, then Document.
  2. Choose a file, such as a PDF, your notes or a worksheet. It is sent at once.

Any kind of file can be sent, up to 25 MB. It arrives as a card with the file name, its size and its type. Tap the card to download or open the file.

Share a location

  1. Tap the paperclip, then Location. The Share a location window opens with a map.
  2. Choose the place in one of three ways: tap Use my current location (your browser asks for permission), type in Search for an area, street or place and pick a result, or tap the map and drag the red pin.
  3. Check the address shown at the bottom of the window.
  4. Tap Send location.

The location arrives as a small map card with the address. Tapping the card opens the place in Google Maps.

A location card shows exactly where the pin is. Share your home address only with people you trust.

Share a contact

  1. Tap the paperclip, then Contact. The Share a contact window opens.
  2. Type a Name. It is required.
  3. Add a Phone number, an email under Email (optional), or both. At least one of them is needed.
  4. Tap Send contact.

Some phone browsers also show Pick from my contacts, which fills the form from your phone's contacts. On a computer, type the details yourself.

The contact arrives as a card with Call and Email buttons.

Send a voice note

  1. Tap the microphone (Record voice message) to the right of the message box.
  2. The first time, your browser asks to use the microphone. Choose Allow.
  3. Speak. A red dot and a timer show that you are recording.
  4. Tap the square button (Send recording) to send it, or the bin (Discard recording) to throw it away.

A voice note can be up to 2 minutes long. At 2:00 the recording stops and is sent by itself. Voice notes play inside the chat.

If you see "Microphone access was denied", allow the microphone for sikhami.com in your browser's site settings. "Voice messages are not supported in this browser" means you need to try another browser.

Send a GIF

A GIF is a short, silent moving picture.

  1. Leave the message box empty and tap GIF. (When you have typed something, Send shows in its place.)
  2. The GIFs window opens with popular GIFs. To find one, type in Search KLIPY.
  3. Tap Load more to see more results.
  4. Tap a GIF to send it.

The GIFs come from KLIPY, a GIF library, as the window says.

Everything you send is shown to everyone in that chat. In a club or meetup chat, that means every member. In a direct chat, photos, GIFs and links also appear under Media and links in Chat info.

You cannot delete a photo, file or voice note after sending it on the website. A suspended account cannot send anything.

Questions

Can I send several photos at once?

No. Send them one at a time. To show several photos to many people, make a post with more than one photo. See Create a post.

Can I send a video?

There is no video option. You can send a short video file with Document if it is under 25 MB. It arrives as a file to download, not as a player.

Why did my photo not send?

It may be larger than 10 MB ("Image must be under 10 MB."), or it may not be an image file ("Please choose an image."). Make the picture smaller, or send it as a Document if it is under 25 MB.

Can I use these tools in comments too?

Yes. Comments on posts and clips have the same paperclip, microphone and GIF tools. See Likes, comments and replies.

Will people on the Android app see what I send?

Yes. Photos, documents, locations, contacts, voice notes and GIFs sent from the website show in the Sikhami Android app too.
