Polls
How to ask a question with a poll, how voting and results work, and where to find polls on Sikhami, including the Polls page.
Updated 22 October 2026
A poll is a post that asks a question and gives two or three answers to choose from. Other members vote by tapping an answer, and everyone who has voted sees how the votes are split.
Polls are a quick way to ask other learners for their opinion, for example which chapter is hardest or which exam date suits a study group.
Create a poll
- Open the poll form in one of these ways: on Home, click the Poll icon under the "What did you learn today?" box; in the Create post window, click the Poll icon in the Add to your post row; or open More, then Creator studio, and choose Poll.
- The window title changes to Create poll. Type your question in the big box ("Ask the community a question…").
- Type the answers in Option 1 and Option 2. Option 3 is optional.
- Add topics if you want, with the topics button beside Public. You can choose up to 3.
- Click Publish poll. You see "Poll published" when it is done.
| What | Limit |
|---|---|
| Question | Up to 300 characters |
| Answers | At least 2, at most 3 |
| Each answer | Up to 100 characters |
| Photos, video or extra text | Not allowed in a poll |
The Publish poll button stays grey until there is a question and at least two answers. On the website you cannot post a poll inside a club.
If the question has a hashtag, the poll is listed on that hashtag's page, although the hashtag is not shown as a link inside the poll. See Hashtags and mentions.
Vote in a poll
- Find a poll, for example on the Polls page or on someone's profile.
- Under the question you see the answers as buttons and a line such as "12 votes · tap an option to vote".
- Tap the answer you choose. Your vote is saved at once.
- You can vote only once in each poll.
- You cannot change or take back your vote after you tap an answer.
- You can vote in your own poll.
See the results
You see the results only after you vote. Before that, you see the answers and the total number of votes.
- Each answer shows its share of the votes as a percentage and a shaded bar.
- The answer with the most votes is in bold.
- Your own choice is marked "· your vote".
- The total number of votes is shown under the answers.
Votes are counted, not named. The website does not show anyone, not even the person who made the poll, who voted for which answer.
Where polls appear
Polls are not shown on Home. You find them here:
- The Polls page. Open Explore and tap Polls, or open More and choose Polls in the Explore list. The page has two tabs: All polls shows polls from public accounts, the most popular first. My polls shows the polls you have posted.
- A profile's Polls tab. Each profile has a Polls tab with that person's polls.
- Search. In Search, choose Posts, open the filters and set Post type to Polls. See Search filters.
- Hashtag pages, when the question has a hashtag.
If your account is private, your polls are not listed under All polls. See Private account and follow requests.
Manage your poll
- You cannot edit a poll after you publish it: not the question, not the answers.
- To take a poll off your profile without deleting it, open the ⋯ menu on the poll and choose Archive. You find it later under Archive, on the Polls tab. See Archive and delete posts.
- To remove a poll for good, open the ⋯ menu and choose Delete post, then Delete. This cannot be undone.
- People can like, comment on, repost, share and save a poll like any other post.
Questions
Can I change my vote?
No. Once you tap an answer, your vote is final.
Why can't I see the results?
Results appear only after you vote. Until then you see the total number of votes.
Can I see who voted?
No. The website shows only how many votes each answer got, not who voted.
Can I add a fourth answer?
No. A poll has two or three answers.
Why is my poll not on Home?
Home shows only posts with a photo, a video or a voice recording. Your poll is on the Polls tab of your profile and on the Polls page.
Can I add a picture to my poll?
No. A poll has a question and answers only. To share a picture, make a separate post.
