Updated 23 October 2026
Sikhami is for every kind of learning: school and college subjects, exams such as JEE and NEET, languages, music, dance, sports, trades, computers and much more. All of these are arranged in Categories.
Categories have three levels. A category (for example a big area such as music) holds sub-categories, and a sub-category holds topics (for example one instrument). Every level has its own page that lists what you can learn there.
Open Categories
- On a computer, open More at the bottom of the menu on the left, then Categories in the Explore list.
- On a phone, open Explore (the magnifier) and tap the Categories tile.
- In Search, when your words match a topic, tap the shortcut button that starts with Browse, for example Browse Piano & keyboard.
- Tap a topic label on a course, teacher or club page, where shown.
The Categories page
- Search everything you can learn: a search box at the top. Type a word such as guitar, Kathak, electrician, JEE or Python. Matching categories, sub-categories and topics appear as a list. Each row shows where it sits, for example the category above it. Tap a row to open it.
- Popular right now: a row of popular topics. Tap one to open it.
- A card for every category. A star means the category is featured. The card shows how many items there are to explore, how many sub-categories it has, and the names of its first few sub-categories.
If nothing matches your search, you see Nothing matches and your words.
A category, sub-category or topic page
When you open a category, sub-category or topic, the page shows:
- A path at the top, starting with Categories, that shows where you are. Tap any part of it to go up a level.
- The name, with an icon. Next to it you may see the name in Hindi or English, and how many items there are to explore.
- Also known as: other names for the same thing, if there are any.
- Buttons for the sub-categories or topics inside it. Tap one to go deeper.
- A row of tabs for each kind of item, with the number in each.
| Tab | What it lists |
|---|---|
| Courses | Published courses on this subject. |
| Institutes | Institutes that teach it. |
| Teachers | Teacher profiles for it. |
| Clubs | Published clubs about it. |
| Meetups | Published meetups about it. |
| Notes | Published notes, books and question sets. |
| Rooms | Public study rooms about it. |
Items are listed newest first. Tap Load more at the bottom to see more. A category page also lists everything from the sub-categories and topics inside it.
When a tab is empty
If nothing is listed yet, you see a message such as No courses under and the topic name. Two buttons may help:
- A button to make the first one yourself: Create a course, Add your institute, Create a teacher profile, Start a club, Host a meetup, Share notes or Start a study room.
- See all of and the name of the level above, to look at a wider area.
How items get into a category
When people create a course, a teacher profile, an institute, a club, a meetup, notes or a study room, they choose the topics it is about. It then appears under those topics, and under the sub-category and category above them.
Only published items appear. A draft course or an unpublished club is not listed. Private study rooms are not listed.
If you make something and it does not appear under a topic, check that you chose that topic for it and that it is published.
Public page
At the top right of the Categories page and of each category page there is a Public page link. It opens a version of the page that anyone can read, even without signing in. You can share that link with friends who do not use Sikhami yet.
Questions
What is the difference between a category, a sub-category and a topic?
They are three levels, from wide to narrow. A category is a big area, a sub-category is a part of it, and a topic is one specific thing you can learn.
Why did a topic open a different page?
Some topics have been joined with another topic. The old link opens the topic it was joined with.
What does "This topic is not on Sikhami (any more)" mean?
The topic was removed or the link is wrong. Tap All categories to go back to the list.
Can I follow a category?
There is no follow button on a category. To tell Sikhami what you want to learn, see Your interests.
Why are posts and clips not listed in categories?
Category pages list courses, institutes, teachers, clubs, meetups, notes and study rooms. To find posts and clips on a subject, use Search with a topic filter.
