Find people to follow
How to find other learners on Sikhami: the People page, People to know on Explore, People search with filters, and how to show that you are open to connect.
Updated 22 October 2026
Sikhami is more fun and more useful when you follow other learners. You see their posts in your feed, and you can message them, study together or find a mentor.
This article shows where to find people, how to follow them, and how to tell others that you are open to connect.
Where to find people
- The People page: open More in the menu on the left and choose People, or tap the People tile on Explore.
- People to know on Explore: a row of popular people. Tap See all to open the People page.
- People to follow on the right side of Home, on wide computer screens. Tap See all to open the People page.
- The People tab of Search, where you can search by name and use filters.
- Followers lists: tap the number of followers on someone's profile to see who follows them.
The People page
The People page has three tabs at the top:
| Tab | Who it shows |
|---|---|
| Popular | The most popular public accounts. |
| Most followed | Public accounts with the most followers. |
| New | Public accounts that joined most recently. |
Each tab shows up to 20 people. Each card shows the person's photo, name, @username and number of followers, and their class or stage and languages if they added them. A blue tick means the account is verified.
- You do not see yourself on this page.
- You do not see people you have blocked or people who have blocked you.
- Private accounts are not listed. You can still find them by name in Search.
Follow someone
The cards have no follow button. Look at the person's profile first:
- Tap the person's card. Their profile opens.
- Tap Follow.
- If their account is public, the button changes to Following. You now follow them.
- If their account is private, the button changes to Requested. You follow them once they accept your request.
On the profile you can also tap Message to start a chat. See Followers and following and Messages.
Find people with Search
To find someone by name or to look for a certain kind of learner, use Search:
- Open Search. The People tab is selected.
- Type a name or username (at least two letters), or leave the field empty and use filters.
- Tap Verified to see only verified accounts.
- Tap More filters for more choices: Wants to learn, Their goal, Gender, Age range, Where they are (class or stage), State, Preparing for (exams), Languages, Open to, Interests, Location, Verified only and Open to connect.
- Tap Show results.
For example, to find a study partner for NEET in your state, choose Preparing for: NEET, your State, and Open to: Study partner. See Search filters.
Show that you are open to connect
If you want other learners to find you and reach out, turn on Open to connect in your profile:
- Open your profile and tap Edit profile.
- Scroll to the Connect section ("Let other learners find you and reach out").
- Turn on Open to connect. This shows you in the Open to connect filter of People search.
- Under Open to, pick what you are open to, such as Study partner, Group study, Looking for a mentor, Can mentor, Doubt solving or Projects. You can pick up to 10.
- Tap Save.
While Open to connect is on, your Open to choices also show as tags on your profile. Picking an Open to choice turns Open to connect on. Turning Open to connect off clears your Open to choices.
Only connect with people you feel safe with. You can block anyone at any time. See Block someone.
Questions
Why am I not on the People page?
You never see yourself there. Other people see only public accounts, and each tab shows up to 20 people, chosen by popularity, number of followers or joining date.
How do I appear in the Open to connect filter?
Open Edit profile, go to the Connect section and turn on Open to connect.
Why does the follow button say Requested?
The account is private. You become a follower when the person accepts your request. See Private account and follow requests.
Can I see private accounts in the directory?
No. Private accounts are not listed on the People page. You can find them by name in Search.
Can I follow someone straight from the People page?
No. Tap their card to open the profile, then tap Follow.
