Search filters
Every filter in the More filters window of Search, tab by tab: people, posts, clips, courses, institutes, teachers, clubs, notes and meetups, plus topic, distance and date filters.
Updated 22 October 2026
Filters narrow your search results. For example, you can look for NEET teachers who teach in Hindi, online meetups this week, or institutes within 10 km of you.
Each search tab has its own filters. This article lists them all. To learn the basics of searching first, see Search Sikhami.
Open the filter window
- Open Search and pick a tab, such as Courses.
- Tap More filters at the end of the row of quick filters.
- A window opens, titled for the tab, for example Filter courses by or Filter people.
- Choose your filters. Most of them are drop-down lists you can search in. A list that allows several choices shows them all.
- Tap Show results.
- Cancel closes the window and keeps the filters you had before.
- Clear removes every choice in the window. Tap Show results after it to apply.
- When filters are on, the chip shows how many, for example More filters · 3.
- You can use filters without typing anything. Sikhami then shows everything that matches.
The Hashtags tab has no filters.
Topic and learning filters
At the top of the window on every tab except Hashtags is a topic picker. Choose a Category, then a Sub-category, then a Topic. A category covers everything inside it, so you can stop at any level. On the People tab this section is called Wants to learn and finds people who picked that subject as something they want to learn.
Some tabs also have learning filters:
| Tab | Learning filters |
|---|---|
| Courses, Institutes | Skill level, Age group, Format, Outcome, Schedule |
| Teachers | Skill level, Age group, Format, Schedule |
| Clubs, Meetups | Skill level, Age group |
| Notes | Skill level |
| People | Their goal |
| Posts, Clips | None |
For Skill level and Age group, items that are open to everyone always match.

Distance, dates and how filters work together
Distance (posts, meetups and institutes)
- In the nearby list, pick Anywhere or Within 2 km, 5 km, 10 km, 25 km, 50 km or 100 km. Or type a number in Distance up to (km).
- Tap Show results.
- Sikhami uses the location you set on Sikhami. If you have not set one, your browser asks to share your location.
If your location cannot be read, you see Could not read your location, so the distance filter was cleared. To set your location, see Your location.
Your own dates
Under Upload date (notes) or Timing (meetups), fill in From and To and tap Use.
How filters combine
- Choices inside one list mean "any of these". Picking JEE and NEET in Exams finds items for either exam.
- Different filters mean "all of these". Exams: NEET plus Language: Hindi finds items that match both.
- In Level filters, items marked for all levels always match.
- When you switch tabs, the quick filters and that tab's own filters (such as exams, languages, level and state) are cleared. General choices such as the topic, category, distance and dates are kept and used again where they apply.
Questions
Why did my filters disappear when I changed tab?
Each tab has its own filters. When you switch tabs, the quick filters and the tab's own filters are cleared. Set them again on the new tab.
Why do results include items for all levels when I chose one level?
Items made for all levels suit every learner, so they always match a level filter.
How do I remove all filters?
Open More filters, tap Clear, then tap Show results.
Why was the distance filter cleared?
Sikhami could not read your location. Set your location on Sikhami or allow location in your browser, then set the distance again.
Can I save my filters for later?
No. The website does not save filters. They stay while you are on the Search page.
