Announcements and doubts for teachers
Send a message to everyone in your video course with an announcement, and answer the doubts students ask on your lectures. Learn who is told, where students read them and how to keep up with open doubts.
Updated 28 October 2026
A video course has two ways to talk with your students. An announcement is a message from you to every student in the course, such as "Live revision class on Sunday" or "New chapter added". A doubt is a question a student asks on one of your lectures, and you answer it.
Both are for video courses. For classroom (face-to-face) courses, message your students from the list of students instead.
Post an announcement
- Open the Learning studio, go to My courses and click the course.
- Open the Announcements tab.
- Under New announcement, type a title (up to 140 characters), for example "Live revision class on Sunday".
- Type the details for your students if you like (up to 5,000 characters).
- Click Post to all students. You see Posted. Your students are being told.
After a moment, the announcement in your list shows how many students it was sent to, for example sent to 42 students. Only teachers see this number.
In the Android app
Open your course and, under Teaching tools, tap Announcements. The form and the Post to all students button are the same as on the website.
Who receives an announcement
- Every student whose access to the course has not ended. A student whose access period is over is not told.
- Each student gets a notification in Sikhami, a push notification on their phone and an email, as their own notification settings allow. See Notifications and Email notifications.
- Students read all announcements in the Announcements tab of the course player, the page where they watch the lectures.
- Only teachers can post. Students can read but cannot reply to an announcement. To ask something, they use Doubts.
Announcements are sent at once and cannot be edited. Check the text before you post. The delete button removes an announcement from the course, but the notifications and emails already sent stay with the students.
Answer students' doubts
Students ask a doubt from the lecture they are watching. The doubt is pinned to the moment in the video where they asked it. You get a notification when a new doubt is asked, and again when a student adds a follow-up.
- Open your course page and click Watch as a student. The course player opens.
- Open the Doubts tab. As the teacher you see Whole course first: every doubt in the course. Choose This lecture to see only the doubts on the lecture that is open.
- A line above the list shows how many doubts are waiting for your answer, or All answered.
- A doubt without an answer has the tag Waiting for the teacher. Click the time on a doubt to jump to that moment in the video.
- Click Answer, type in Answer this doubt… and click Post answer. The student is told that you answered.
- Every enrolled student can read every doubt and its answers, so one answer helps the whole class.
- Your replies carry a Teacher tag.
- You can delete any doubt or reply in your course with its delete button.
- View profile under a doubt opens the profile of the student who asked it.
In the Android app
Open the course and, in the course player, tap Doubts. You can answer with Post answer, the same as on the website.
Co-teachers, announcements and doubts
Teachers you invited to co-teach the course (see Your teacher profile) can post announcements and reply to doubts too.
A doubt counts as answered only when the course owner replies. A co-teacher's reply reaches the student, but the doubt keeps its Waiting for the teacher tag and stays in Doubts to answer until the owner replies. New doubts are notified to the course owner.
Keep track of open doubts
The Analytics tab of your course shows Doubts (all doubts asked) and Doubts to answer (doubts the owner has not replied to yet). On the website the second number is highlighted while doubts are waiting. See Course analytics.
