Record and edit clips in the Android app
How to use the camera in the Sikhami Android app: switch between Post, Story, Clip and Live, record a clip in parts, edit it with filters, text, music, trim and speed, and publish it.
Updated 28 October 2026
A clip is a short vertical video, like a reel. The Sikhami Android app has its own camera and clip editor: you can record a clip in several parts, add music, text and a filter, trim it, change its speed and then publish it.
This article is about the Android app. On the website you upload a finished video instead; see Upload a clip.
Open the camera
- Tap Create (the + in the bottom bar) and choose Clip. The camera opens ready to record a clip.
- Tap Create and choose Story. The camera opens ready for a story.
- On Home, pull the feed sideways to the right. The camera slides in from the left, ready for a story. Press back to return to the feed.
- Tap Create and choose Live to go straight to the live screen. See Go live.
The first time, the app asks to use your camera and microphone. Allow both, or the camera shows "Camera and microphone access are needed to record".
If your account is suspended, the camera does not open and the app tells you why. See Account suspension and moderation.
Post, Story, Clip and Live
Under the round shutter button there is a strip of four words. Swipe or tap to choose what the shutter makes:
| Mode | What the shutter does |
|---|---|
| Post | Tap for a photo, hold for a video (up to 1 minute). The photo or video then opens on the New post screen. See Create a post. |
| Story | Tap for a photo, hold for a video (up to 1 minute). A photo opens in the story editor, where you can add text and stickers. Two extra buttons on the left, Aa and Stickers, make a story with words or stickers on a coloured background, with no photo. See Stories. |
| Clip | Records a clip in one or more parts (see below). |
| Live | Opens the live screen. See Go live. |
The buttons down the right side are Flip (front or back camera), Flash and Timer. In Clip mode there are also Speed and Filters.
Once you have recorded part of a clip, you cannot switch to Post or Story. The app says "Finish or delete the recorded segments first".
Record a clip
- Choose Clip in the strip under the shutter.
- Pick the longest length you want with the button that shows the seconds: tap it to switch between 15s, 30s, 60s and 90s. It starts at 30s.
- If you want, set the Timer (off, 3 seconds or 10 seconds), the Speed (0.3x, 0.5x, 1x, 2x or 3x) and a filter from Filters. The filter shows on the screen while you record.
- Record. Tap the shutter to start and tap it again to stop, or press and hold it and let go to stop. With the timer on, a countdown runs first.
- Each recording is one part (a segment). Record as many parts as you like until the ring around the shutter is full. Then the app says "Maximum length reached".
- To remove the last part, tap Delete last segment.
- When you are happy, tap the tick button. The clip editor opens.
If you close the camera after recording, the app asks "Discard recording?". Choose Discard to throw the parts away, or Keep editing to stay.
Use videos and photos from your phone
In Clip mode, tap the gallery thumbnail beside the shutter. A drawer opens with your phone's photos and videos, in the tabs All, Videos and Photos.
- Tap up to 10 videos, then tap Next. The button shows how many you picked. The videos play one after another in the editor.
- Tap one photo to make a clip from it. A photo clip is a single photo shown for a few seconds.
- The first time, the app asks to see your photos and videos. Allow it to pick from them.
In Post and Story mode, the same thumbnail opens the New post or New Story screen with your photos ready to pick.
Edit your clip
The editor shows your clip full screen with tools down the right side. Tap a tool to open its panel at the bottom. What you change plays straight away.
| Tool | What it does |
|---|---|
| Filters | Changes the colours of the whole clip. The filter you picked in the camera is already chosen. |
| Text | Adds words on top of the clip. Type, then choose a colour, Bold, Italic, Align and Text background. Drag the words to move them. Drag them onto Drop here to delete to remove them. |
| Audio | Adds music. See the next section. |
| Trim | Cuts the start and end of a single video. When the clip is made of several parts or videos, trim does not work: each part keeps its full length. For a photo clip, this is where you choose how long the photo shows: 3, 5, 7, 10, 15 or 30 seconds. |
| Speed | Plays the whole clip at 0.3x, 0.5x, 1x, 1.5x, 2x or 3x. The panel shows the new length. Speed does not apply to photos. |
| Volume | Sets how loud the sound of your video and the music are. Mute original sound turns off the sound of your video. |
The frame button in the top bar (Fit or fill the frame) switches between showing the whole video with bars and filling the tall frame, which cuts off the edges. Tap Next when you are done. If you close the editor, the app asks "Discard clip?".
A clip can be up to 3 minutes long after your edits. If it is longer, the app says "Clips can be up to 3 minutes. Trim it a little."
Add music
- In the editor, tap Audio, then Add audio.
- Choose a track. The Library tab has royalty-free tracks you can search with Search tracks. The My phone tab has music saved on your phone (the app asks for permission first).
- Tap Use. The track starts playing with your clip, and its name shows at the top of the editor.
- To choose which part of the song plays, tap Trim in the audio panel, move the handles in Trim Music and tap Apply. Tap Change to pick another track or Remove to take the music off.
- Open Volume to balance your own sound and the music.
The track's title and artist are shown on your clip with a music note, so the artist is credited. Library tracks are free to use. Only use music from your phone if you have the right to share it. See Community guidelines.
Publish your clip
After Next, the New clip screen opens.
- Check the cover picture. Tap Edit cover and pick another moment from the row of frames if you want.
- Write a caption in Write a caption… and add hashtags in the #hashtags box. Both are joined into the clip's description. See Hashtags and mentions.
- Pick a Category. This is required: without it the app says "Pick a category first".
- Check the Language (the language spoken in the clip). The app remembers your last choice.
- Add up to 3 Topics if you want: the exams or subjects the clip is about.
- Tap Share. The app says "Your clip is being created and will post shortly".
The app makes the final video on your phone and then uploads it, even if you leave the screen. After that Sikhami's servers prepare it, and it appears on the Clips tab of your profile and in the clips feed. Who can find it is the same as for a clip uploaded on the website; see Upload a clip.
Save to phone makes the clip with all your edits and saves it to your phone's gallery (Movies/Sikhami) without posting it.
The app has no Members only choice. To post a clip for your paying members only, upload it on the website. See Upload a clip.
Questions
How long can a clip be?
In the camera you choose up to 15, 30, 60 or 90 seconds of recording. After editing, a clip can be up to 3 minutes long, for example when you use longer videos from your phone.
Can I add music to a clip on the website?
No. Music, text, trim and speed are in the Android app only. On the website the sound of your video is the sound people hear.
Why can I not trim my clip?
Trim works on a clip made of one video. A clip recorded in several parts, or made of several videos, keeps every part at its full length. Delete the parts you do not want in the camera with Delete last segment instead.
Why can I not switch from Clip to Story?
You have already recorded part of a clip. Finish the clip with the tick button (Next), or delete the parts with Delete last segment, then switch.
I tapped Share. Where is my clip?
The app first makes the video on your phone, then uploads it, and then Sikhami prepares it. This can take a few minutes for a long clip. It then appears on the Clips tab of your profile.
Can I change the music or the video after I publish?
No. After publishing you can change only the details, such as the caption, the category, the language and the topics. To change the video or the music, delete the clip and make it again.
