Messages and reminders to students

Write to one student, a batch, a course's learners or everyone from Sikhami LMS, in the app and by email, and switch on automatic fee, class and attendance reminders.

Updated 7 November 2026

In Sikhami LMS, Students lists everyone your institute teaches in one place, and Messages lets you write to them. Students with a Sikhami account get your message in their inbox with a notification; email reaches them, and students without an account who have an email address in their batch.

Messages and automatic reminders are part of Sikhami LMS Pro, and free for every institute until Pro launches. SMS and WhatsApp are coming soon.

Your student list

Open your workspace and click Students. Each person is one row, even when they are in a batch and also learn one of your online courses.

  • Search by name, phone, batch or course.
  • Filter by In batches, Online courses, Applied, Fees overdue, Attendance under 75% or No account.
  • Tick students and click Message to write to just them.
  • Download saves the list you see as a spreadsheet (CSV).

Click a student for their page: batches and attendance, online courses and how far they got, tests, fees and receipts, and every message you sent them.

A teacher sees the students of the batches they teach. An accountant sees batch students and fees. Online courses and applications are for the owner and admins.

Send a message

  1. Click Messages, then New message. You can also start from Students or a student's page.
  2. Under To, choose All students, A batch, A course's learners, Students with fees overdue, or the students you ticked. The line below says how many it reaches in the app and by email.
  3. Pick a template, or write a Subject and a Message. {name} becomes each student's first name, {batch} their batch and {institute} your institute's name.
  4. Leave Email on to send it by email too.
  5. Under When, choose Now, 8 am, or Pick a time.
  6. Click Send (or Schedule).

Between 9 pm and 8 am the message starts on 8 am, so nobody gets a ping at night. You can still choose Now.

The Sent tab shows each message with how many got it in the app and by email. Click one to see every student and what happened, for example No verified email or Unsubscribed. A scheduled message can be cancelled until it goes out.

Who gets it, and how

StudentIn the appBy email
Has a Sikhami accountYes: Inbox and a notificationYes, to their verified email address
In a batch without an account, with an email addressNoYes, to the address you typed for them
In a batch without an account or email addressNoNo. Add their email in the batch to reach them

The email comes from your institute's name via Sikhami. When your institute has an email address in Details, replies go to it. Every email has a link to stop emails from institutes.

An institute can send up to 40 messages and 300 emails a day.

Automatic reminders

Open Messages, then Automatic reminders, and switch on the ones you want. They go out every evening at 6:30 pm, in the app and by email, and each one only once. They are off until you switch them on; only the owner or an admin can change them.

ReminderWhen and to whom
Fee dueThree days before an instalment in the fee book is due, and again on the day, to the student it belongs to. Nothing goes once the instalment is paid.
Class tomorrowThe evening before each class day in the batch timetable, to everyone in the batch, with the time and the place or class link.
Absent todayIn the evening, to each student marked absent that day.

Each reminder appears in the Sent tab like any other message.

Templates

Templates has ready-made messages (class cancelled, holiday, test tomorrow, fee reminder, new batch, results) and your own. Click New template to save words you send often, or Copy a ready-made one to change it.

For students: your inbox

Messages from your institutes are in My learning → Inbox, and a notification opens them. To stop their emails, go to Settings → Notifications and switch off Messages from institutes under Email, or use the link at the bottom of any of their emails. You still get them in the app.

Questions

Can I send SMS or WhatsApp messages?

Not yet. Sikhami is registering with the phone networks and WhatsApp. Until then, messages go in the app and by email.

Do messages cost anything?

Not now. Messages and automatic reminders are part of Sikhami LMS Pro and free until Pro launches. You will be told before anything changes. SMS and WhatsApp will be paid from a prepaid balance.

Why did a student not get my email?

Open the message in the Sent tab to see why: the student may have no verified email address, may have unsubscribed, or the day's email limit was reached. They still got it in the app if they have a Sikhami account.

Can my teachers send messages?

Yes, to the students of the batches they teach. The owner and admins can write to everyone and see every message sent.
